Destiny > Witcher 3 Witcher may have a better open world but Destiny is a game that never ends. Not even comparable but I have played a shit load more of Destiny than Witcher 3. Both awesome games.

  • Lmao Destiny is a game that never ends?? That's because the story never started!!

  • I agree the story blows because of whatever happened to the original writer but the end game content paired with friends never gets boring. It's an MMO anyways so as long as the games mechanics are good then it's nice.

  • Wrong on the MMO account. Bungie has stated numerous times publicly that Destiny is not, and was never intended to be, an MMO. I am happy to hear that the end game content for you and your friends never gets boring. May I offer an outsider perspective and maybe try to look at Destiny from another Guardians perspective. I imagine much of the joy you get out of playing Destiny is directly tied to the interactions of playing with your friends. If that is true, then maybe - just maybe - it is the interaction with your friends that is the stimulus for your enjoyment and not Destiny. For those of us who do not have the luxury of having our friends play Destiny like yourself, our experience is much more tied to the actual enjoyment Destiny provides; because we lack this additional component that Guardians who play with friends enjoy. Just a thought.

Bungie can say it isn't an MMO all they want but it is. Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game. They just don't want to have that tag for PR reasons. Although I do see what you mean. It would not be as fun without friends but that is the case with most MMO's and all games. Playing with friends makes any game better 90% of the time. At least for me. WoW was fun solo back in the day but nothing can make that fun anymore. When I play by myself I really enjoy the Crucible if you take a day or two to get good at it or working on my Vanguard rep or just leveling an alt. To me though it really isn't a game to be played alone. So I do see your point. I think it would be nice if they started doing matchmaking for the Raids and the higher levels of PoE for solo players. WoW did it and it turned out great for a lot of people. They could maybe try and make the matchmaking Raids, PoE have half the exoitcs, lower drop potential but still better items than Strikes and what not. Just so Solo players can make use of more end game content if they don't have people to play with.

I can see the relation/connection you are making of Destiny being an MMO because it is played online and with friends. In that regards I will agree with that Destiny has MMO aspects, but the commonalities stop there. Raids are limited to 6 Guardians PvP is limited to 12 (if we count PvP though wouldn't that make Halo/COD as MMOs as well?) Each planet has a limit of 25 Guardians (I believe) The closest Destiny came to being an MMO was when all the Guardians were farming ether chests for keys pre HoW. Edit: yesterday I was running a side quest in ESO and came across a boss fight that, with no exaggeration, probably had 20-25 people fighting. Mind you this was at level 19 and no way an end game fight.

  • Destiny checks every requirement to be an MMO based on the definition of the genre. - Interact with millions of players, check - Game is hosted by a company check - RPG, check - Game evolves while offline, check Halo is not an MMO because the world is not persistent or online only. Let alone it is not an RPG. Again, here is this link. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massively_multiplayer_online_role-playing_game It is an MMO.

  • Alright, I'm done. You are right. Enjoy your "MMO". "Arguing with an idiot is like playing chess with a pigeon. They will shit all over the board and then strut around like they won." Let me know when you can "interact" in game with these millions of Guardians you speak of. As far as the game developing while you are offline, I'm just thankful I got to kill Skolas before someone else did. Whew, almost missed that world "development".

  • You can be salty all you want bro. You are wrong. You are unwilling to see that. I am not trying to be rude but the points you keep making are pointless. Please tell me how much ESO or WoW develops when players kill something lmao. Destiny is an MMO. Is it your traditional quest hubbed MMO? No. Doesn't mean it isn't one. Also I will interact with millions of Guardians, I have been doing that since Day 1. If I had a list of all the different players I have come across doing missions, patrols, at the tower or however else. It would be -blam!-ing huge. People I never even interacted with because we were doing our own thing in the same world. I can literally go on Patrol right now and find people I have never met before and go do whatever we want. Or the Tower, and meet people there instead and do whatever. Like a Raid, an MMO term used in MMO's. Maybe a Strike, in other words a dungeon,. Something MMO's have. Maybe get my Clan together, go to Mars and take some screenshots. Do things people do in MMO's. Also I will not strut like I won. I don't want to go brag to someone that I discussed Destiny being an MMO or not... Lighten up man. We can agree to disagree sure. Let it be known though. Destiny literally checks all the boxes for what makes a game an MMO. Regardless if you agree or not. Take it or leave it.

  • If i wanted to read then maybe Destiny should have been marketed and distributed as a novel as opposed to a video game. VIDEO = I shouldn't have to read..... Why listen to music when you can just read the lyrics?

  • Most MMO's become a grindfest at some point. ESO, WoW, Tera, EQI & 2, CoH and the list goes on and on.

  • There is a difference between needing to grind for a short amount of time and a permagrind though

  •
A massively multiplayer online game (also called MMO and MMOG) is a multiplayer video game which is capable of supporting large numbers of players simultaneously. By necessity, they are played over a network, such as the Internet. MMOs usually have at least one persistent world, however some games differ.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massively_multiplayer_online_role-playing_game You don't have to have 50 people on screen at once for it to be an MMO...

  • Here is a direct quote from the link you just posted. "MMORPGs are distinguished from single-player or small multi-player online RPGs by the number of players able to interact together," "By the number of players able to interact together" in no way does Destiny allow a LARGE number of players to interact. Again, Destiny is NOT an MMO just because you play it online with a couple of your friends. How do you interact with other Guardians in Destiny? Via Fireteams, which I broke down in a previous post with the highest number you can have is 6. IMO, 6 people playing together in way can be determined to be a large number of players.

  • "MMORPGs are distinguished from single-player or small multi-player online RPGs by the number of players able to interact together," You literally see players you have never met at the Tower, Reef or on Patrols and missions everyday. That you can all interact with or invite to do stuff. Millions of -blam!-ing people dude. Just because you don't see them all at once does not mean it isn't an MMO... Oh man, only 6 man fire teams, not an MMO. Not how it works dude. ESO raids are only 12 manned... WoW parties are 5 people in dungeons or just running around. Although I do play with my friends most of the time I have also done raids with many random people I have met at the Tower, forums etc. It is a -blam!-ing MMO, deal with it lmao.
