If most atheists say "if i cant see it i dont believe it". How can you possibly believe in the big bang and AN UNPROVEN THEORY about macro evolution

I'm guessing you've never seen a giant squid. Are you saying giant squids aren't real?
-
I'M not saying that... It is just like when atheists say that they won't believe it if they can't see it.
-
There's a different between not seeing something and not having evidence of something. I've never seen God and I've never seen a dinosaur, but I have seen evidence of dinosaurs.
-
There is evidence of God similar to evidence of dinosaurs. Archeologists have found other eyewitness accounts of Jesus' miracles, the house of a disciple was found etc There are more i just can't think of them off the top of my head
-
Eyewitness evidence is nowhere near as good as scientific evidence. I could find dozens of stories of people who were convicted of crimes based on eyewitness testimony, only to be released later because DNA evidence proved their innocence. In many cases the witnesses honestly believed what they were saying, too. The thing about testimonies is that they come from people, and in my experience, people are idiots.
-
Well like i said there is more than just eyewitness evidence.
-
I'm listening.
-
And again like I said i cannot remember all of it off the top of my head. I can't research it right now because i'm about to shower and sleep and i need to wake up early in the morning.
-
Will you ever research it?
If most atheists say "if i cant see it i dont believe it". How can you possibly believe in the big bang and AN UNPROVEN THEORY about macro evolution
The funny thing is we can see these things. We can see expansion of the universe, we can see cosmic background radiation. We can see change and variation within species and we can also see it over time. All it takes is to apply those same principals which work on the simple merchanisms of DNA, to other living things. That creates the hypothesis of evolution. Things like the fossil record, DNA, comparative embryology, analogous structures, homologous structures, vestigial organs, chromosome 2 in our genome, genetic drift and geographic isolation and of course direct observation have proven that evolution is a thing. Dismissing a scientific theory based on the fact that it doesn't line up with your religion or personal beliefs is very ignorant.

Edited by U R My ChewToy: 6/17/2015 7:38:37 PMWhoever said im simply dismissing it because it doesn't agree with my religion? Ive questioned my religion and studied evolution (not super extensively) but i have considered that possibility. It's ignorant if you to make assumptions about my life
-
I didn't make assumptions about your life, I simply stated dismissing something proven because it doesn't line up with your personal beliefs or religion is ignorant. That doesn't mean I meant you are doing that.
-
You were kind of implying that
-
So? It doesn't matter, its just a point I was making. We could argue about your life or the topic. I'd much rather talk about evolution since its the topic.
