In this article, eurogamer interviewed Luke Smith about the worries players have expressed about the taken king both in price points ($40 =/=£40) and in collector's edition exclusives (three armor shaders, exclusives emotes, and continuous XP granting exotic class items) that are only available for players willing to shell out $80, most of which is for content they likely already own. His answers to these questions were illuminating to say the least and rather than give cliffs notes I want you to read it yourself now. Think about what he says. I hope it leaves the same feeling in your gut that it left in mine. When destiny first launched there were three editions: the vanilla game the digital guardian edition and the ghost edition. The vanilla game was the vanilla game, simple enough. The ghost edition was for the high rollers who wanted something nice: their very own red dinklebot and an in game version of it. Cool. For those who wanted all of the in game content but didn't really want to drop more money on physical items there's the digital guardian edition which came with all of the in game items the ghost edition had. Now we have a new release but with a radically different setup. The $40 expansion for owners of both expansions is analogous to the vanilla destiny package from above. Completely fine. The $60 legendary edition is fine. New players should have a bundle for them, this kind of thing happens all the time and while I'm kinda suprised at how cheap it costs, they still have to be competitive against the heavy hitters shipping this season. The collector's editions are where we run into trouble. The physical rewards are analogous to the ghost edition: you either want the strange coin or you don't (well gamestop is out of physical copies so I guess this is no longer a choice). That's fine. The word collector has a certain long term investment attached to the name semantically so you would think it was made with current players in mind. But it comes with the legendary edition which is intended for new players... Alright that's fine I have my ghost I don't really mind the physical items so let's see the equivalent of the digital guardian edition because those shaders look nice, the emotes will liven up the game and the XP class items will lessen the grind and I wouldn't mind spending the halfway point between the $40 and the $80 editions. Except the digital edition of the collector's edition also costs exactly the same as the physical edition: $80 (for less content as the digital version obviously doesnt include the physical items). The digital guardian editon came as a halfway point between the the two editions and included the full destiny experience in game. That was important. Now current players are given two options: go all in on the $80 version, buy what you already own for the exclusive in game items, or buy the $40 version and watch as new players and current players who have more money than brains bypass the grind with their new XP capes for the rest of the game. Not allowing current players the option to buy the taken king by itself with the complete in game content is price gouging. It's also making them artifically inflate their dlc sales as players are buying multiple copies of the dlc that they will never use because guess what? They already own it. And then when an interviewer brings up these frustrations, this is the response we're given. If you care at all you have to be vocal about this. If this succeeds without contest it will be how companies sell content going forward. I'm not calling for a boycott but don't throw your money at them blindly. In Light of all that has happened, it's my personal opinion that Activision is employing strong arm tactics. Forcing Bungie to adhere to their COD pricing philosophy. Activision seems to be the real puppet master and Bungie just the fall guy. I may be simply wrong in my observation; what's your take on this fellow guardians ?

The part I hate most is the noobs who bought the 'cheap edition' can still get the year 1 gift. Level 30 is incredibly easy, 2 rares and 2 legendary armour. You can get that in 1 week.

A good idea my brother had (I think he came up with it) is day 1 players should get a discount code which they can redeem when buying the CE at release. So it could take off $30 for instance so we don't pay full price for what we already have. Or you could just sell the physical copy of destiny with the 2 expansions to someone.

1. I have no problem w dropping $40 on TTK. I enjoy the game and I will enjoy the new content. 2. No way in hell I drop $80 for 75% of stuff I've already paid for. 3. Emotes? No -blam!-s given about their new emotes, not for an additional $40. 4. I think the emotes and stuff should come w the $40 DLC download for TTK. And this is where the problem is.... I've spent more money and contributed more as a day 1er than a new person. But they get the new emotes. It's principles. Anyway. $40 TTK.... Pvp until Sept.

I didn't have a problem with any part of TTK until that quote about throwing money at an emote. If that's their attitude, they won't be getting any more of my money.

Haha don't worry if I want the taken king I have to spend $70. Now if I want the fancy shaders and moves that's $100. I paid $80 for the original game, $40 for the dark below and house of wolves. That's already $120 and another $70 for the taken king. $190 for the game already, No way I'm giving them another $30 for some emblems and dance moves.

Companies are here to make money. They support the game pretty regularly without asking for a monthly fee. So I understand the need to price the content how they did. However... I'm not opposed to the 40$ DLC cost. But I do have some gripe with 80$ for digital collectors, which I purchased, for the content being provided. Regardless of how bungie markets the game (including prior game, old DLC etc) it is just a bit much. I think 60$ would be a sweet spot for collectors edition. And I think digital should cost less than physical collectors edition considering it is lesser content. And as a separate package they should sell a year 1 edition that includes original destiny, DB and HoW for 20$. By breaking up the content they preserve the 80 price point to "catch up" new players and get and extra 20$ for collectors edition for those of us who own the game and DLC already.

Are you clowns giving me the right to bitch about Battlefield 4 too. Let me break this down. Battlefield 4: Released on 11/22/2013 For the year that it ran they had [b]5[/b] DLC that gave you at least 4 new maps and 3 ish guns and other in game content. To much to look up. Also being a premium member had its on content separate from the DLC. Game $60. Battlefield Premium $50 Total is $110. Which provided more content destiny could ever try to do. Now on 10/21/2014, [i]not even a total calendar year[/i] they made available what they called [b]Battlefield 4 Premium Edition[/b] which cost [b]$60[/b] which included [b]EVERYTHING[/b] from above. So to concluded this you are bitching because new players will be able to get everything for $60. That you payed $95 for. So step back and re-evaluate your action that you took on Bungie. -Cheers!
