In beta and the first few days of release they were considered pretty weak. You only had access to control in beta and one of the few maps available was first light. Titans and warlocks ruled that map. It wasn't until after beta where you could unlock blade dancer people started to change their tune. (Also aclyophage symbiote helped too)
