Same could be said about America, plus they wouldn't exist without the British empire, it would just be many tribes of native Americans co-existing with nature.
Also, Briton did once exist as independent duchies etc and was then unified by whoever and then 'unified' with Scotland.

Britain was an empire. It controlled all of Australia, India, and a large portion Canada. They also controlled many Caribbean islands. You say that they were oppressive yet completely ignore the oppression Rome carried out. Sorry but Britain commanded an empire.
