It's no different than gaming companies selling remastered versions of old games. They do this to reel in the next generation of gamers who may have missed out on the game when it first came out. This provides a steady flow of reputation/etc. Streamers have it easy when it comes to this because once they reach the attention of a large number they will always have a new batch of viewers to hook. Once you're "at the top" your name will be listed at the top of whatever game it is and any first time twitcher will most likely view them first.
