When the first DLC was released, the first warlock (popular at the time) item sold by Xur was Voidfang V. This was done so that ignorant people (like me) would buy the DLC when they weren't going to, but were swayed thinking they would gain an additional grenade (stacking 3) moving forward. This would make playing more fun and worth the 20 odd £.
