I have a slightly different outlook on the whole Etheric Light situation. Before I begin, I'd like to point out that I'm married with 2 boys that 9 & 11 yrs old. I'm retired and spend a good portion of my time playing the game as well. That being said, I don't see myself as MLG material and I just enjoy playing the game with my wife and sons. First thing I'd like to say is that I think that the heavy players ruin the game for some people by completing everything in such a short period of time and then parading around like it was easy. There's no reason why anyone should have been a lvl 34 with in the first couple of days, or even weeks. Secondly, I think many people are so eager to get all of the new toys and end up frustrating themselves because they didn't see the path laid out for them. There are 2 distinct paths outside of Iron Banner, which remains to be seen, and I believe this post shows that they're being missed. These two paths are obviously Trials of Osiris and Prison of Elders. The problem is that everyone is jumping the gun and trying to finish the top end of PoE early or expecting to get too much from ToO. The Prison of Elders path is relatively simple and is designed for people to use lvl 28 as an introduction/casual play area to get accustomed to the gameplay. The lvl 32 option is meant to be played for the next 3-4 weeks, amassing the appropriate light level gear to become lvl 34 so that you can then play the lvl 34 version. Then the lvl 34 version is meant to help us collect weapons that will help us with collections and give us Etheric Light so we can ascend our preferred weapons in preparation for lvl 35. Now forgive me as I haven't gotten a full grip on Trials of Osiris yet but I'd imagine that it's setup similarly so we shouldn't be able to max out immediately. My point is that I think most people are either completing the expansion too quickly or feel inadequate because they aren't keeping up with the obsessive and aggressive players that lead the pack. I realize $20 doesn't seem like a lot to people these days but this was designed for your average player to get mileage out of it. Try to see my point of view and realize that this is all we have until September's mystery release of "Comet" or whatever Bungie is cooking up. So basically, just take your time and know that the toys will come in time. I know I want to ascend my Fatebringer like so many have already. Oh and Etheric Light does drop in the nightfalls. My son got it in 2 of his 3 NF's this week. Jealous? Yes I am.

  • That is an excellent way of putting things, I'll be the first to admit I'm sort of a "heavy player" not in the sense I play alot but in the sense I try to complete the activities as quickly as possible and while I know this content is meant to be played over many weeks the lack of access to a group to play with for 34 and 35 PoE simply because one does not possess a gjallahorn is down right ridiculous, additionally I and many others have been childish about things in the past but after a fairly long hiatus I've come to learn and accept that Hate Breeds Hate and honestly I've found myself back to those childish ways just even from reading forum posts it seems we as a species are quick to hate/get mad/angry but slow to love/accept/forgive (not trying to be a "hippie" but I just want to point out that by "venting" our hate on the forums we are leading the community to further grow "toxic"(as Dota and League players would put it, basically just becoming a "Troll" someone who causes discord for enjoyment)) its made this game seem worse than it is and it leads to frustration and extreme hate by these "Heavy" players that can't get XYZ piece of gear fast enough. I'll definitely say the expansion was worth 20$ just for PoE kinda too bad people without a gjallahorn can't do 34/35 versions though, you have to try pretty hard to get a group for 32 even though its not that much harder than 28. I Definitely appreciate you sharing your perspective on this Paradox, and its great to know that even parents are playing!

  • I'm glad to see that others appreciate my outlook on the game and that others are also seeing the toxicity of the aggressive banter found on these forums. Our society has become one of self-entitlement and dissatisfaction with everything we come in contact with. I believe there are many factors involved with this situation and there's no easy fix either. I would say that my point of view may come from the life I've lived and that being of enlisted military both as a dependent child and as an active duty member as well. Living that life makes you appreciate things a bit more and realize that you don't always have to have absolutely everything to enjoy whatever you're involved with. I still remember sitting in the desert, listening to my iPod and chatting with my wife on yahoo messenger when the Internet was fast enough to send our messages. Situations like that make me realize that a lil lag in an online game is a minor thing and could be so much worse or even impossible if things were slightly different. If more people were able to safely go through hardships in order to teach them to appreciate what they have, I think this world would be a better place. That won't happen tho and I don't expect most people to consider or even read everything I've written. However, it's nice to get my opinion out there I suppose.

  • My grandfather on my moms side served in the pacific theater during WWII as an Army Engineer bridges, didn't get to know him as well as I would have liked he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's when I was about 13 the year before his wife (my grandmother) had passed, but to hear my mom tell stories about him and grandma they sounded like the only part of my extended family that wasn't all about drama y'know the kinda people you want to spend holidays with, it makes me quite angry to see others who's grandparents are still living not recognize they aren't going to be around forever, my point is that your are absolutely right we take for granted quite a lot of what we have the opportunity to experience or enjoy and the sense of entitlement I fear is only going to get worse as generations go by, I took psychology (As well as AFJROTC so I really should be a better person and set an example for others) in High School didn't think too much about mob rule and how much power it truly has and my psychology teacher was right mob rule will turn nice people into monstrous people, its kind of hard to see whats happening when you jump on the bandwagon because you kind of agree with some of the hate, like I said in my apology thread it took me a few month of not playing the game to realize how much time I spent in a game I purportedly hated, now if I truly hated the game I wouldn't have put so many hours into it and I hope others who have spent so much time in the game will see it this way eventually, the more people that "hate" the game the stronger that hate becomes and the worse the community suffers for it. I've said some horrible things, things I can't really unsay and I've come to realize what kind of impact that has on something that someone worked really hard on and there was no excuse for my behavior. Anyhow, I really appreciate your service in the military, it takes the right kind of person to do something like that, and you are right about the lag it could be so much worse (although in the defense of legitimate players some people do cheat by purposely lagging their connection, granted someone might just have really bad internet but it is possible to cheat by slowing your connection down on purpose, Bungie, Microsoft, and Sony though have ways of weeding out someone who is actually cheating versus someone with bad internet).
