Is Rob McLees still designing the weapons?
He's like Rain Man with this stuff.. so it's surprising if he's at the helm of things.

Except hes wrong 100%. He showed the exception to the rule on bottom chamber firing revolvers. And most lmg and hmg in rl feed over top and down into chamber and not directly into the side

He's supposedly gone. And it shows, considering the human weapons in Halo were quite logical.

Oh, they went to massive lengths back in the day.. field training with the army and everything. And you're right; it showed. And it shows even more now he's gone. :(
