Yes we got new gear, new mechanics, new public events, new social space, new team events, new cruicible stuffs, but the story..... kinda suffered.
Yes yes bring on the "Destiny has no major story" Comments but really there's a lot of lore that is painfully hidden away in the grimoire which makes me terribly sad as a narrative writer. The plotline for Skolas ended so very abruptly and with very little satisfaction. Even at 32 skolas was easy to defeat solo and it was just... so very anti-climactic. It was having a giant firework that just fizzles a little bit and it was super disappointing. Lemme put here a few of the thoughts I had in no particular order.
The kings and the wolves were not fighting and were clearly in conversing when I walked into that room or was that just me? How cool would it have been instead of just crushing their little alliance instantaneously like that if the House of Kings started giving us trouble too? I mean we crushed a couple captains don't the kings have a Kell that ultimately makes the decision? Also, did anybody else pick up on Variks sort of.... indecisiveness in his diologue? During the king's mission he says. "Helping you and petra is good yes?" that's a question not a statement, is he seeking our approval or is he trying to convince himself that what he's doing is right, but then later he says. "you're here to stop the house of devils, the kings don't know that and they will try to kill you, kill them back." So he's obviously okay with us killing his kind? Variks has honestly been the most interesting character in this whole thing because of such moments like these. Lastly, the Wolves invading the Vault of Glass and harnessing vex tech. Just... HOLY SHIT that was so freaking cool and crazy! but then.... well that's that we beat them yay. They kinda used it at the end fight but how cool would it have been if there had been at least one more mission to that fighting oracles and all of that, or even bringing the oracles into the final fight. Petra did say that the top of the tower had a simlar signature to the vault and I had my fully leveled fatebringer at the ready and.... no oracles. Seriously? The wolves couldn't have just broke in, killed the templar, and started harnessing vex tech in five minutes they must have been doing this since the start of the uprising and working on it all the time we were off doing everything else trying to keep the wolves away from the other houses. To think they could master alien tech in a few minutes is rediculous, especially tech that can literally "will you out of existence". So if that's so then why didn't they hav esome of it for the final battle?
Ultimately it feels like there's two missions missing from the story, its just so quick and easy even on max difficulty and unsatisfying. Plus I was also disappointed to sign in the next day and.... no queen's bounties? What? Its frustrating enough not to be able to complete some of Eris' bounties because the swords of crota are MIA but now I can't even work on my queen's guard either?

You are already putting new lore in which doesn't yet exist. It's no issue to let your imagination run wild with that and to be fair, I enjoyed House of Wolves. Time will tell whether bungie made the best decisions possible. For right now though? You are right. It did not live up to the hype... it was better then the hype because hype is just a cancer mentality to consider. Bungie did really well in the original game... the first expansion... and now House of Wolves in my books.

It wasn't bungies choice to cut out the story and put it into grimoire cards. Although I would absolutely love for the story to actually be there in the game. :/

It's not a true "expansion"

Yes that part of the story with Vault of glass seems kind of weak now that I think it over

There is a Blade of Crota in the Fist of Crota story mission on Earth. You'll have to go to orbit or let yourself get killed to do it multiple times, but that's how you fulfill that bounty.
