Games like Elder Scrolls have unlimited storage space regardless of which gen. Bungie should use a similar inventory system for storing our gear.

They can't due to last gens not being able to handle it. Bungie said that in past gen they removed comparing items in the vault because the consoles can't handle it.

A lot of last gen games had either unlimited storage for weapons and armor, while others had a limited, but high, amount of storage. Hell ps2 and Xbox back as early as 2002 if not sooner, had games with more storage than what a destiny, a game built with more superior technology in 2014(or 2013 when the game was built) and has a measly low amount of storage.

When you open the vault it renders all of the popup previews for everything and stores them in memory. If they completely removed the previews and just had icon/text lists, they could easily increase vault space by a factor of 2 or 3 on old and new gen, but then you wouldn't be able to see perks and stats on stuff by hovering over it.

I'm aware that Bungie's crap storage system is not good for old gen - something they must have been aware of when designing it. What I'm saying is, if they wanted to make a game for old and new gen then they should've gone with a more traditional inventory system such as is used in most RPGs and which allow for unlimited storage. It's easy for Bungie to blame old gen for the lack of storage space but the real reason is their failure to consider the implications of their choices.
