1) I was playing through Halo one this morning and Cortana said "your structure is not so different from the Autumn's" or something along those lines. Anyway, was that the first time Cortana was inserted into Chief or was that the first time Cortana was manning the Pilar of Awesome and she made a comparison?
2) on the level "Halo" in Halo one, what is that forerunner structure that shoots energy into the sky? What's it's purpose?

1) It was the first time she was linked up with Chief's neural net since piloting the Autumn. 2) No one really knows exactly. Based on information from Halo 4, they most likely serve the purpose of a data relay system. Any other functions though are a mystery.
