The Player: Chapter 1

"Hello, Guardian." My eyes adjusted to the blinding light. "How did you get here?" My head felt like a city that had just undergone a tsunami. "Guardian?" "My name's Quinn." I replied "I'll ask again, how did you get here?" "Get where, I'm just sitting on th-...Oh." My eyes finally adjusted, and I could see a ceiling made of some kind of silver metal; a change from my wooden rafters. "You just showed up here, Guardian." I sat up in sudden realization, and looked to the left. I got a face full of metal, with a blue eye in the middle. "Where am I?" I demanded. "In the Tower, Guardian, this is your cell." "Stop calling me that." I hesitated and said, "you're a ghost?" I was trying to piece things together. All I remember was the game contacting the servers and then do that transporting thingy. "Yes, I'm your ghost." I was about to retort sarcastically when a crashing noise rocked the wall. "That's coming from outside, follow me, Quinn." I got up and used the wall for support, my legs were shaky and hurt like growing pains. My ghost opened the door to my "cell". There was a hallway that was made of the same silver metal, and large windows. I ignored my ghost's wishes and looked outside them. I was greeted with a sprawling canopy of forest, hills raised levels of green in gentle curves. "Where are we?" I laid a hand on the glass wall. "In the Tower, this is where people like you live." Another rocking noise, and the glass now had a crack in its smooth surface. This time, I did follow my ghost. "Do you have a name?" I asked the floating triangle...thing. "Casse-44357." "How's Casper?" "Casper...Cas-per...sounds good to me." The hallway ended and Casper used his blue laser that I saw so many times throughout the story, and opened a door that looked similar to my cell door. It slid upwards, and at first I heard pounding music. It's the night club, what do you know. I looked back to see the door slide back to its original place, it blended in perfectly into the wall. Casper was leaving me behind, I followed the robot down the small stairs and across the club. I didn't see anyone manning the bar, I guessed the were on break, but in the game-. A louder crash the shook the club, the people in the small room cowered in fear. I ran past Casper, I knew where I was going. "Guardian!" Casper yelled. But I ignored him, vaulting up the stairs. I sprinted past some screeners and they went off with a shrill. Turning a corner I stared at the courtyard of the Tower. The place where the vaults, cryptarch, bounties, and Eris Morn were located. The red flags from the rectangular spires flapped in the wind. Those were usual sites, the ground speckled with the shadows of the trees, and other Guardians getting ready for their next mission. But this wasn't a game, now instead of the open space, the entire courtyard was covered with people. They screamed and shouted, some people threw things, or even fired guns in the air. They were dressed like me, in casual clothing, some in pajamas. Guardians held back the crowd from the Speaker, and some barricaded the entrance to the Hall of Guardians. These people were players, but this many? This looks like the entire population of the Destiny community in the States were transported. Ships hovered at the hangar, or people were transmuted on to the ground by their ghosts. They tied their ships to the railing like Eris. Casper hovered by my side, and more people stopped by my side to see the anarchy occurring. This place gave me the fondest video game memories, yet people were destroying it. "Quinn, what's going on?" Casper flitted by my shoulder. "Humanity, this is what humans do when they are confused, they cause chaos." "Someone has to stop this, they'll destroy the Tower." A kid said from my right, he looked about my age. "Ghost? What do we do?" A girl from my left asked. The ghosts looked at each other. From the barricade of the hall to the Speaker came a hopeful sight. The Guardians parted and let the Speaker of the Traveler pass. Even the players halted in their mischief to look at the elegantly dressed man. He raised his hand and shot off a gun, and its crack silenced everything. "What is taking place here?" He demanded with a hint of annoyance, as of this was a regular thing for him. His voice carried across the courtyard easily. A Guardian whispered in his ear, and they shared a laugh. "Who are you newcomers?" The Speaker asked. A large crowd of different responses filled the silence, and another shot silenced them. "We're players!" The boy from right yelled, his ghost looked nervous as if the kid made a mistake. The Speaker looked distraught at this idea. "Players?" He asked. A tidal wave of agreements followed. "We're from outside of here! We were transported by the servers!" A voice yelled. The Speaker talked to a ghost nearby. "So you were transported here suddenly? What was the time of this occurrence?" Silence followed, it appeared everyone tried to remember the date of the transportation, I couldn't remember the exact date. But I know the year was-. "2015!" A voice yelled. The Speaker whistled in surprise, and he laughed nervously. "That was long ago, very long ago." The Speaker said. "We played this game!" A voice yelled. The Guardians looked at each other with surprise. "How? In what way?" A Guardian asked instead of the Speaker. "We did exactly what you guys do!" A voice yelled. "Well, whatever happened, you are here now. No matter how young you are, or how old, you are Guardians from here on out!" And the Speaker retreated to his habitat. The players seemed to share the same mental thought. They were all done for.
You can use the #Theplayer tag to find the rest of the series, just so you know.
• This sounds like it'll be fun, but will you be including other actual players or just story characters. The first would be an amazing Idea but harder, the second easier but not as much fun to the reader. Which are you doing?
