I'm looking for a unique, possibly rare weapon to use in dark souls 2. Preferably a good weapon also. I'm thinking about using the forlorn scythe. Any ideas?

  • I wouldn't recommend the Forlorn Scythe; I recently upgraded it, and the weapon scales with hollowing, and does very little damage unless you're at least 40% hollow, and isn't even that powerful when you're fully hollow. It has really good bleed damage though. Reaper class weapons are a good choice in terms of unique weapons though, they're hugely underrated in my eyes, although hitting enemies with the 'sweet spot' does take some getting used to.

  • I was going to counter it buy making my health 99 and wearing a mix of mid heavy armour, with fashion souls in mind of course.

  • It's not worth leveling your health past 50, I think you get around 5 HP per level after 50, so it's just not worth it. At 50 VGR with Third Dragon Ring + Life Ring +3, I believe your health is around 2,300-2,400, which will be halved if you choose to go fully hollow. On my build, I infused it with bleed as it loses barely any damage and gains a lot of bleed bonus. I had Ring of Blades +2 and Flynn's Ring (with max damage bonus), it had an AR of 450 whilst fully hollow. In comparison, the Great Scythe un-infused has an AR of 459 with the same setup (25 STR 44 DEX), and I don't have to be hollow to use it. Granted, the Great Scythe looks nowhere near as cool as the Scythe of the Forlorn, but it's more practical.Ultimately, it's up to you, but I just thought I'd offer a comparison.

What other weapons so you think? I'm wanting to two hand as well

  • I'll list a few I've been playing around with, some more common than others. The damage will be based off my current build with un-infused weapons; 25 STR, 44 DEX, RoB +2 and Flynn's Ring. Royal Dirk - I don't think I've lost a PvP fight with this yet, but it's not too good for PvE. Extremely versatile moveset, 1 handed is similar to the Heide Knight Sword and 2 handed is a dagger moveset. Low damage, but very fast hits. 323 AR. Loyce Greatsword - Another versatile moveset, great in both PvP and PvE. The tracking isn't too good, but the varied moveset more than makes up for it. 480 AR. Shotel - Highly underrated, especially because of the shield piercing attacks. Same R1 attacks at regular curved swords, but the R2 hits through shields. Great in PvP, not as good as others in PvE but still quite strong. 398 AR. Espada Ropera - Thrusting Swords are OP. 417 AR. Winged Spear - Lacks the slash move of the Partizan, but has a very long range with the R2 attacks, making it useful for catching people out in PvP. Not tried it yet in PvE, but it seems like a solid weapon. 439 AR. Grand Lance - Very good for PvE. The 160 counter damage really shows, although the stamina consumption is rather large. Alright for PvP, but the only slash attack is the second attack of the 1 handed R2, and it's easily punished via backstab. 522 AR. Curved Twinblade - Disappointing in both PvE and PvP. The bleed build-up isn't enough, even with a bleed infusion, and the range is extremely short. The only plus side is the poise break capabilities. 346 AR. If there's any other weapon you're wondering about, feel free to ask. I'm pretty sure I've used every weapon, catalyst, and shield in the game at some time or another.
