Trials of Osiris, and other PvP activities.

Greetings Guardians, With the recent ToO reveal, it looks like PvP is getting a new injection of super competitive content and with its lack of match making, it'll all be about that Raid-esq level of organisation. I therefore wanted to get the Groups thoughts on how they'd like PvP to be organised moving forwards, if at all. For my part, it's mostly seemed fairly ad hoc, and people have been self sufficient in their time spent in the Crucible. But with the introduction of ToO, ideally it'll need more organisation for a chance of success. From a days to play POV, it's not as much of an issue like the Raids, as it's set across Friday to Tuesday. However would people appreciate a Thread set up each week, much like the one for Raids to aid with this? And if so, should we expand upon that idea and have a dedicated PvP thread, there for those who want to organise not just ToO, but Iron Banner, Inferno and whatever else may come along? Ultimately it's down to you guys. This is your Group, and anything of this type I would want to be in service of the Group's needs. I'd appreciate all your feedback, so sound off below. "You're crushing them!"

  • Randomised groups of three will be fine for PoE, but I'm convinced that static teams of three is the way forward for ToO. So we either hammer out those groups now and begin to practice, or we just see who gravitates to who in the fullness of time. The key advantage to static groups of three, is the option of setting their own schedule - both to practice and to attempt the actual Trials. Vaguely dropping in and out will end badly; ToO will require a little more dedication than the raids currently do. All in my humble opinion of course.

Just a thought, but if Prison of Elders is a three-man fireteam affair, we may be able to arrange for the same teams to head into the Trials? Potentially even following one activity with the other?

    • I might have been game to give it a whirl, but if it's Friday to Tuesday for Trials, that's a total bust for me I'm afraid - I'll have to bow out and look towards the Prision of Elders and normal raids.

    • I won't be around for the first couple of weeks as I'm moving house at the end of the month. It'l be a shame to miss out but I'm more upset about missing Game of Thrones

Given the no friendly matchmaking, 3 player teams and the limited availability of the event (weekends only), I think the manner in which we do sign ups may also need modifying. Set evening slots starting at 7:30pm may be to restrictive. Especially as 3 people could easily have all of Sunday's free and fancy a huge session then. So I propose that people state approximate times they are available (using UK time zone). Then people are grouped into slots based on their overlapping availability. (I suggest starting with 3 hour to 5 hour slots for the first few weeks). So for instance I might say I am available at these times: Friday 7.30pm to 11.30pm Saturday 9am to 1pm and 8pm to 11pm Sunday 1pm to 10pm I have a Warlock, Titan and Hunter all 32 but only want 2 slots. I might then get teamed up in a Friday 7:30 to 11pm group and a Sunday 2pm to 7pm extended session. (Depending on the availability of others). We will also need to see what happens if the teams are split and juggled. Do you get an individual entry card or one for the team? (The former makes more sense to me as it makes the whole thing more fluid). For example if my first team disband with us on 5 wins can I then carry this 5 wins into another group? If the other 2 people are on 4 wins does the next round victory give me 6 and them 5? Or does everyone just use the team leaders' score card?

Usually when I play Crucible matches, it's more jumping on and seeing who's playing rather than arranging. I can see it getting quite manic trying to plan out Trials matches for 3 people. I'm definitely wanting to play with the clan, so if that's what is decided as a group, I'll go along with it. EDIT: Having read more into how it's working, I guess it makes sense to plan as there's no matchmaking either. Also, really annoying to choose Friday PM to Tuesday AM for it. I like to play during the week rather than the weekend. I'm happy with sign-ups now.

      • I'd say there's at least twelve of us interested in polishing up our Crucible skills. Weekly Crucible thread, alongside the existing raid thread might be welcome. I don't mind organising the groups, if no one else wants to do it.

      • Sounds like a plan. Happy to take part or assist with organising as required.

      • I would be interested in ToO, i have been playing the Iron Banner for the first time this week, just started it to grind for loot, but i am actually having a good time playing it, hopefully the lag wont be such an issue on ToO, for some reason the lag was terrible on wednesday, but very smooth yesterday, green bars all way through.

        • Like you guys have said, starting with a general sign up thread to get an idea of numbers would be good. Seeing as it's only available a few nights a week, and as it sounds like there's quite a few of us interested, shouldn't be too difficult to accommodate for the days that people can do. If it turns out that the Prison of Elders stuff is also a 3 player, Friday - Monday type thing then that's when things get a bit more complicated, ha.

        • I was having a little think about this yesterday. My thoughts were if should we have dedicated teams who always play together. I know Bio, Highbury and Comp do the nightfalls together and could easily stick together for the trials of their popular enough. My other thought was like you suggest, a dedicated sign up crew for the PVP stuff. I'll give it some more thought and see what comes. To be honest though, if it's like what I experienced during last nights Iron Banner (with people warping and dodgy stuff like that) I can see people leaving it for the fairer PvE. Fo 'Sho

          • A general sign up thread would be welcome. I'd also like to get a headcount - see just how many of us want to tackle ToO. Couple of practice nights a week would help us with tactics and teamplay. I think we should eventually settle into semi-regular, static groups of three, based on how many people we have and our preffered class; one of each being the optimum, I would imagine.

          • Whilst I see what Mike is saying, I think initially a sign up thread (like Highbury suggested) is the best way to go

          • I think a general sign up thread similar to the raids and then folks can arrange their own ToO/Arena groups within
