I'm usually already out of bed sprinting at whatever it is. It's happened before where I'd wake up and think I see a silhouette.
It's not that I'm trying to be brave, I've just seen enough horror films to know that first you see the monster, then the monster scurries toward you. I don't think I could handle seeing some crazy shit like that, so the best way to beat fear is to beat it into submission. Take it out before it takes you out, that's what goes through my mind.
Something similar happens when my someone calls my name to wake me up. I go from asleep to out of bed and standing in half of a second, as if sleeping is a crime or something lol.

Exactly lol, one can learn a lot from horror films about what not to do in these situation. Tripping is a big one, the victims always seem to trip and crawl away from the killer, or they'll disarm him and run away then trip and fall.

That's a good way to prepare yourself. Watch plenty of these sorts of films.
