Enjoy! Part 15: Plans to be Made The Doctor began working on the other Fallen before Matthew, starting off with the Dregs, then to Saliks. After he had treated them he moved on to Matthew. “Multiple cuts… fractured leg, honestly you made it out better than the others.” The Doctor said with a smile. “So, Saliks never told me your name.” Matthew said while the Doctor took off his arm guards. “Well, I don’t have a name you see, I don’t know if anything is different in the House of Devils, but he might have told you upper classmen only have names, and I’m not quite on the level of a Baron, so I simply go by ‘The Doctor’.” Matthew nodded, remembering what Saliks had told him before. The Doctor began taking off Matthew’s sleeve to treat the wounds, and Matthew began to say, “Wait, don’t!” but it was too late. There it was, human flesh, scabbed over with blood instead of Ether, right before the eyes of a Fallen. The Doctor’s smile fell away from his face. There was a long moment of silence while the Doctor simply stood there, examining the boy’s arm. His human arm. As if out of the blue, the Doctor took a wet cloth, and began cleaning the blood-caked arm. Matthew looked at him in a mixture of shock and confusion. “I’d like for you to tell me what you are before I treat your wounds next time, please.” The Doctor said. “Why didn’t you try to kill or something?” Matthew asked, confusion still in his voice. “My only task is to treat wounds, not cause them.” He said, nonchalantly, picking up a roll of bandages off the floor. “But can’t you just report me to the Kell?” Matthew asked. “Did I say I liked the Kell? That he has the right to know?” The Doctor said, his cheery persona nowhere to be found. Matthew frowned. If even the Doctor didn’t like the Kell, then many others must feel the same. “Why don’t you like him?” He asked. The Doctor began wrapping Matthew’s arm with bandages, tightly yet just loose enough to allow blood circulation. “The Kell has a tight hold on the House, too tight most would say. He wipes out anything that might loosen that grip, considering the greed that runs in his Ether. Even our old prime servitor couldn’t make Ether that bitter. He sends groups of Dregs and rising Fallen on suicide missions, such as the one you and Saliks went on. We could use a change in Kells.” He said, gesturing to the sword in Matthew’s hand while he moved onto the next arm and applied a salve-like substance to his burns. Matthew had forgotten he was still holding the glass blade. It shined in his hand while he white-knuckled the hilt of the sword. “The databases call that thing the Xiphos.” The Doctor said with a smile coming back onto his face. “It is a Vex artifact, except it was not made by the cold hands of the Vex. It was made by a Guardian.” The Doctor said. The tone of his voice made it seem like regarded Guardians not exactly as an enemy, like most Fallen, but more like rivals to be defeated. “We have another artifact in our database that we know the Guardians have as well. The Aegis. Both were made by a Guardian by the name of Kabr, but you might have already guessed that.” Matthew frowned once more. Why was it in the Citadel? Why was the Kell so interested in it? Questions rushed through his mind until Matthew felt a pat on his back. He turned around to see Saliks standing there. “You’re all set.” The Doctor said, the smile back on his face. Matthew put his armor back on and began to head for the door with Saliks, until the Doctor called to him, “And Matis.” Matthew turned back around to look at the Doctor, “Think about what I said of the Kell.” Matthew frowned, then walked out. Once they got to Saliks’ chambers he simply sat down and told Matthew, “So, what’s the plan?” Matthew blinked twice before he asked, “What plan?” “To overthrow the Kell of course.” Matthew looked at Saliks as if he had grown a third head. “What?” “You heard the Doctor. We need a new Kell, and from what it seems, that’s what most of the others think as well.” Matthew shook his head, “We could never overthrow him though, we-” “And that’s why we need a plan,” Saliks said, cutting Matthew off before he could think of a single valid excuse not to overthrow the ruthless leader of a Fallen house. “If we don’t stop him, he’ll kill us and hundreds of other Fallen as well.” Matthew sighed, and assumed a thinking position. After a long moment of silence, Matthew spoke up. “Alright. We’ll do it, but remember,” Matthew pointed to Saliks, “If either of us die during this, it’s all your fault.” Part 15.5: Back Home “The Warlocks have found a fluctuation in the Vex’s realm.” A woman with dark skin said. “How so?” said one of the council members. “Supposedly they feel as if something has gone missing from it. Something similar to the Aegis.” An Exo said, his golden eyes shining against his ragged armor. “What do you have to say, Jack?” Another council member said to the man sulking at the end of the table. He straightened himself, and spoke, “I couldn’t care less about the Vex right now. It has been a month since my son has gone missing, so I personally would like to talk about the Fallen. Specifically the House of Winter.” “Very well.” Said the Awoken titan, the light gleaming off of his red and white armor.
