The abundance of water, which is necessary for life as we know it, in our own solar system is a good indication water isn't a rare substance throughout the galaxy.

it's not, we can see it on other planets. that doesn't mean there is life though.

yes, I agree. I'm not denying that there is a potential for life outside of earth, I'm just not going to say there is without evidence.

I would say earth is perfect evidence for the possibility of life in the universe.
