I don't care how statistically likely it is, once we see proof I'll start believing.

Let me guess, you're a conservative
-
nope, don't affiliate with a political party, and if I ever do i would want to have for more knowledge into the subject.
-
What about religion? Pious ibet
-
Edited by boom1516: 4/23/2015 2:21:37 PMnope, atheist.
-
agnostic atheist
What the...? That's contradictory.
-
not entirely, from my understanding being agnostic means that you believe there is the potential for a deity or deities, but the atheist part means that I don't think there is.
-
Atheism is a lack of belief, agnosticism is the belief that there is some form of higher power/being but is not understood. Either way, contradictory.
-
well then I fixed it. I really should google definitions before I use a word :P
-
Have you seen your brain, if not, it doesn't exist
-
oh dear more zealots. I'm leaving before this gets worse
-
Just a question using your logic
-
no, you don't understand what I said. if I see tire tracks but no vehicle I'm still fine with you saying a vehicle was there, as there is evidence of it.
-
fair enough. On a slightly related topic, do you believe that space is infinite?
-
of corse it is. space is simple nothing. matter, however, is not. if it were you could destroy or create it as infinity - 1 is infinity and infinity + 1 is infinity.
-
Exactly, if there is an infinite number of planets in space, then it will be impossible for there not to be other intelligent life. Even if you definitely did not believe in anything other than what you see, you would have to admit that the presence of an infinte number of possible habitats means that there will be other life, which will later evolve into more intelligent life.
-
yes, but we don't have infinite matter, we have a finite amount of matter as far as we are aware. I'm not going to operate on knowledge we don't have, I'm going to operate on knowledge we do.
-
That is if you are following our idea of physics. These planets will have different physics. They might have time pass longer that here, they might be able to operate with less or even without matter(they might just be a consciousness without a body)
-
ok, that is a claim. can you support that claim with evidence, or will it remain a claim?
-
On top of that, it is possible that the other forms of life can survive in very extreme climates, so that multiplies the probabilities exponentially
-
Also, they might have infinite matter, especially if you believe that black holes lead to a different dimension. For they may be in this other dimensuon
-
Water on mars anyone?
-
what of it? it's just 2 hydrogen with one oxygen.
-
The abundance of water, which is necessary for life as we know it, in our own solar system is a good indication water isn't a rare substance throughout the galaxy.
-
it's not, we can see it on other planets. that doesn't mean there is life though.

Edited by Britton: 4/22/2015 6:26:54 PMYou're missing the point. The point is, ingredients for life are abundant. Its only the conditions we need to find.
