There is potentially over 8 billion planets capable of life in our galaxy.
By extrapolating Kepler’s findings, astronomers have come up with some not-altogether-unfounded estimates for these values. For instance, they concluded that about 22% of Sun-like stars has at least one planet we class as potentially habitable. Doing the math based on the latest estimates for the total number of stars in the Milky Way, that gives us a rough figure of 8.8 billion potentially habitable planets in the Milky Way. That’s a lot of rolls of the dice, assuming you believe life has any chance at all of starting spontaneously.
That's just our galaxy people. There's hundreds of billions of galaxies in our universe. That's a lot of potential for life. We're not special snowflakes.

*Ahem* Dibs!

F-f-f-fermi paradox Possible Fermi solutions 1: Were rare 2: were first 3: were -blam!-ed
-
Edited by Enter Name Here: 5/28/2015 7:32:30 PMThey must be tiny because all planets above the size of Pluto (which isn't really a planet) have been discovered, haven't they?
#satire
Bruh can you count? That's only like, 7.
-
Currently it's actually 1,112

Edited by Peqqueno: 5/28/2015 8:31:10 AMWrong. 33 billion according to new research that factors in red dwarfs.

It's still not impossible for us to be completely alone in this universe. Also, that would mean if we are truly alone, then that's one planet for every person on Earth! Imagine what you could do with a whole planet to yourself. Of course it would be terrible if you couldn't leave the planet, so let's assume every person had a ship that could easily travel back to Earth. How fun!
-
Still wondering how the Fermi Paradox is still occurring though...
-
That's enough for everyone to have their own planet!
-
I have always wondered, what if we are the first? I know it sounds improbable but it is not impossible. Suppose for a second that the human race is the oldest intelligent race in the universe.

No. Allahu Akbar.
jk
-
Yee. Aliens.
-
can i have a planet?
-
So that means there are 8 billion planets capable of supporting porches?
-
Great, thanks for the info Britton!

Yet another awesome Britton post
-
Now let's find one, so we can ship squeakers to there.
-
The universe is gonna cese to exist we are either going to spread to far apart to even get anywhere or the galaxy's are going to come slamming back together due to the amount of dark matter in the universe
-
Mathematically speaking, there are unspeakable amounts of life-hospitable planets in existence.
-
What else is new.

You really like astronomy/astrology/etc.. Britton, right?
