There is potentially over 8 billion planets capable of life in our galaxy.
By extrapolating Kepler’s findings, astronomers have come up with some not-altogether-unfounded estimates for these values. For instance, they concluded that about 22% of Sun-like stars has at least one planet we class as potentially habitable. Doing the math based on the latest estimates for the total number of stars in the Milky Way, that gives us a rough figure of 8.8 billion potentially habitable planets in the Milky Way. That’s a lot of rolls of the dice, assuming you believe life has any chance at all of starting spontaneously.
That's just our galaxy people. There's hundreds of billions of galaxies in our universe. That's a lot of potential for life. We're not special snowflakes.

Potentially? Yes

An I'm still single T.T

Tau ceti reminds me of tau volantis in dead space 3 Ice and stuff

"Potentially"

Yes! We may not be alone. But it depends how advanced extra-terrestrial life is. We may be 10X smarter than them, or vice versa.

Edited by yupBraiNfreeZe: 4/22/2015 5:41:47 PMWe are not alone. Most people don't believe me. But spiders came from space. They are way smarter than people give them credit. They just don't want to give there identity away. They are tiny little geniuses. And when the time is right, they are going to take over the world. And they will send fleets and fleets of spiders to earth. And we wont be able to stop them cause they are so tiny, we can't see them coming. And we will all die. Please believe me.
I'm an exterminater

really I am

spiders suck
There ARE not is. Proven idiot

There are two possibilities: either we are alone in this galaxy, or we aren't. Both ideas are equally as terrifying.
I really wanna meet some Ayy Lmaos
It's pretty crazy to think that at this very moment, thousands of stars are dying and tens of thousands of stars being born.

But what about the flying spaghetti monster?

F-f-f-FERMI PARADOX!

Pretty logicall when the universe is theoretically infinite...

The Drake equation, man

Edited by Progo: 4/22/2015 2:31:30 PMDo these findings account for mass, atmosphere, and magnetic field? Or is it just any planet that falls within the optimum distance from a star? I'm excited by the prospect of habitable planets, and alien life, but it's always good to be critical of numbers like this.
-
I wanna see what other planets look like on the surface
-
The real question is...what's beyond our galaxy? What do the others hold?
-
There are aliens, but are they ancient aliens?
-
A universe not made for us.

There are aliens, I just don't believe we have seen them yet
