I don't call it broken.
More or less fixed.
Now you finally have to play it like it should.
No more easy ways out.

I don't get how sniping from a distance isn't the "way its supposed to be done".

You don't have to be all the way on top of that rock to snipe. I stand there where those 3 hobgoblins spawn. You just need to avoid some incoming Nothing more

How about not avoiding anything. And just killing everything without any concern? Isn't this how our troops are trained. Is this not a logically strategy?

Yeah that's why they have sniper rifles in the game.....wait a minute?

The broken part was were I had to go back to Orbit. If the enemies want to keep re-spawning that is fine by me.
