I know that transmogrification is popular and may be an easier fix but I feel as a community we should be asking for a complete crafting/upgrading system.
We already know that they can do this in the game, see Husk of the Pit in to Necrochasm.
The two changes I would like to see are paths to upgrade some/or all of the gear/guns at Common, Uncommon, Rare and Legendary up to max light and with new perks etc.
So I could take that white helmet I love, my Rogue 4.5, and with a lot of materials and shards or a quest or two, I could eventually turn it in to a Purple legendary helmet with the exact some look and model, but now with more armor, light, bonuses and perks. I don't know if the system is capable of doing this or not. Or think about Stalker BNGL one of the coolest looking guns in the game that no one plays with because it is Blue. Well what if you knew you could pump a bunch of mats and shards in to it and raise it to Legendary status and eventually max out the damage?
However we are able to swap our IB gear for a cost and there is Husk quest. How difficult would it be for the database to hold Uncommon, Rare and Legendary pieces of certain pieces of gear that I could upgrade in to. I would prefer this to transmog because it makes the upgrading more meaningful and we would all have different gear instead of everyone wearing raid gear but just transmoging it in to something else.
I also feel like the IB rerolling system should be rolled out to vendor gear. Not all gear but select items, and then the costs of continually rerolling would be to make it more and more costly. This would give players a place to dump their extra mats and shards and it would again allow someone the chance to take a gun they really like and truly take ownership of it.

Been saying this for a very long time. It would effectively add more to have and do, as well as more importantly add replay value as I would be glad to delete a character and start over to get back some of that great looking lower level Gear.
