No. The variants in Halo Online still use caseless ammunition. Halo 5's variant doesn't. The SMG's in Halo Online are different variations of the Halo 2- and 3-era SMG's.

I haven't seen the SMG in Halo Online.

The base SMG in Halo Online is essentially just the H2A campaign SMG. All the rest are slight variations upon that.
