Basically, for most people who sit 8-10 feet away from their TV, to get the real benefit of increased resolution of 4k you need to have a tv that is way larger than 99% of people are going to buy. That article also addresses some things that haven't changed in the two years, like contrast ratios and color depth. That article has also been updated over time to add edits.
The point remains, if you have to buy a tv today, you will get more bang for your buck with a nice OLED TV.
