Don't get a 4k unless you are getting a tv that is 80" or bigger. It just doesn't make sense. http://www.cnet.com/news/why-ultra-hd-4k-tvs-are-still-stupid/ There is another article I couldn't find about the science of the eye and its finite resolution perception in relation to 4k. 4k is a joke right now. It will eventually become standard, but there is no point in paying extra for it at the moment. Get a nice OLED hd TV if you're looking to spend the money. Those things are fan-fu**ing-tactic.

  • You posted a article 2 years old. 4k tech has matured and the understanding of the tech is more refined. The better answer is 4k makes a difference depending on how far you sit from the TV. The larger the screen the closer you have to be to notice the difference in 4k vs 1080p. Upscaling 1080p doesn't do too much either, but the picture is still very nice.

  • You've got that backward, but I understand what you are saying. And that's why I was trying to find that other article. Basically, for most people who sit 8-10 feet away from their TV, to get the real benefit of increased resolution of 4k you need to have a tv that is way larger than 99% of people are going to buy. That article also addresses some things that haven't changed in the two years, like contrast ratios and color depth. That article has also been updated over time to add edits. The point remains, if you have to buy a tv today, you will get more bang for your buck with a nice OLED TV.

  • I got a 4k because it was on offer and it was a way of future proofing, if only for a while.
