Fossil record has expanded, DNA has been discovered, mutations have been discovered, more organisms have been documented, Mendel happened, anatomy and physiology have improved, etc.

The Gould and Eldridge hypothesis is the best possible explanation for the Cambrian explosion. However, in the recognition of our ignorance, the theory of evolution is still a thing. It has been observed in nature, recorded in the fossil record, and in the residual structures in organisms today. The lack of knowledge for what happened 700 million years ago does not invalidate evolution.
