Earn verb (used with object) 1. to gain or get in return for one's labor or service: to earn one's living. Please tell me again how obtaining a lucky roll with RNG is earning.

 • I kicked hard mode crota's ass and performed a service for Eris morn, and the five other people in my fireteam. In return, I received a gjallarhorn. That is considered a service.

 • In that regard you'd probably justify people "earning" their welfare checks because they preformed the service of going into the social security office and filling out the paperwork. Or, someone "earned" their lottery win by performing a service by walking into the liquor store and buying a ticket with random numbers on it that just so happen to match the random numbers generated by the Random Nnumber Generator and thus winning millions. In logical practicality, you won your Gjallarhorn. Not earned.

 • Service Noun: 1. The action of helping or doing work for someone. I helped my team kill crota, therefore I have performed a service for both my teammates and the NPC of Eris Morn. Anything I get in return for that service is considered earned by the English language. This is a very clear example of earning. Walking into a store to buy a lottery ticket is not helping anyone or doing any work, and is therefore not earned. Again, this is by definition.

 • Your service rewarded you with the chance of a lucky draw. No more than that. It doesn't matter how anyone gets their gear in Destiny. But the fact remains that something won based off a RNG system is not earned. It's simply a lucky draw. What you did earn was the chance at that lucky draw. Which most times comes up with something useless

 • Yeah but I still earned that chance. Which got me the reward. Meaning I earned that reward.

 • To each his own. This debate is dragging on and going nowhere. Points are being made on both sides but no real conclusion will ever be drawn. Reminds me of a damn senate hearing

 • Haha yeah true that, I just think that most of the things we do in destiny to get exotics is earning because of all the time most people put into the game to get these items. Sure I understand that someone doing shitty in crucible and getting the best gun in the game as a reward is not earning at all, but there are people out there who earn their drops by doing some actual challenging things in the game.
