Do we know what Cortana's solution to the Flood was in Halo 3? She stated that a Halo rings were not required, despite the fact that we fired Installation 04B to "defeat" the Flood.
Could her initial solution still be out there, or was Installation 04B the solution?

However, critical analysis of that plot-point by as of yet 343i devs (at the time) lead them to be incredibly skeptical of Installation 04b being Cortana's solution. The First Strike Adjunct story Petra reveals that an in-fiction character even believes 04b wasn't Cortana's solution. I highly suspect Cortana's solution to be related to the Lesser Ark which is still intact, albeit catastrophically damaged. Theories range from Mendicant Bias to a hidden super weapon being Cortana's solution.
