Most of us are blinded by the holiness of RNGsus. But I'm a sceptic and a non-believer, so I have a theory of why YOU wont get a certain weapon, but others will.
Now, we all think that it's all based on RNG, but I don't really think so. I do understand the concept of randomness, but I don't believe that's a fact in this concern.
I am gonna use two examples:
Player 1:
- has Thunderlord and Gjallarhorn
- want Ice Breaker and SUROS
Player 2:
- has SUROS and Ice Breaker
- want Thunderlord and Gjallarhorn
Player 1 and 2 keeps on grinding for their wanted weapons, but usually get random crap drops. And to top that, they get multiple drops of the exotics they already have. (like me, i've gotten 3 No Land Beyond from Crota)
And this is where my theory comes in...
Bungie has a system (fixed RNG), that basicly makes it (nearly) impossible for you to get the weapons you are missing. It's like your profile is assigned to certain weapons. Me, I get SUROS all the time.
So a simple example for this system would be:
"Drops assigned to Player 1: Thunderlord, Gjallarhorn etc" (these are the drops always handed out)
"Drops avoided for Player 1: Ice Breaker, SUROS, etc" ( these are the drops that might never happen)
(same with Player 2,3,4,5,6,7, infinity)
I know there are many RNGsus followers out there, and by all means, praise him! But me, I'm not fooled by this non-sense anymore. Just like anything else, Bungie likes to control the community, so they control RNG as well.
Yeah, I know, Bungie started selling Ice Breaker, which was hard to get for many of us. But that was also their decision. Why do you think it became available shortly after CE? To soothe the masses to keep them playing.
Conclusion: Players will always get the same drops, and will most likely never get that one thing they are missing (in my case Gjallarhorn).
Hope i made sense. I've been thinking about this for a long time, but never been able to put a word to it. Maybe i wasn't able now either... I might be wrong, but I'm sure my points makes it clear enough.
*edit 1*
I see many say they have all Exotics, and asks me to explain that. Well, that's cause Bungie decided that your profile, amongst others, could. That's why.
*edit 2*
*sigh* This wasn't actually meant to be a post about weapons never dropping, cause they can. It's just that it is controlled by Bungie. Sure, some of you have played for 500 hours and finally gotten a certain weapon. But because the community is continously growing, Bungie decides to hand out X amount of, ie, GHs a day, but still manage to control the weapon flow.
*edit 3*
People seem to be believe I'm saying stuff never drops. If it says that somewhere in my post (I've tried to reword myself), that's not what I'm saying. Please, read my post over again, especially "edit 2".
*edit 4*
Well, I expected a lot of flaming since my so called theory is far fatched, flawed and simply crappy :P
I've tried my best to answer most posts I've seen fit. Thankfully most have been serious posts. Some not.
I am now going to get a beer and my whisky bottle, sit down, and play some Strikes. Will check in later to see if this is still alive.
Hopefully I will prove myself wrong and get GH tonight... hrhrhhr

Ive said the same thing......I have all exotics now but of course it did take quite some time....
-
I have every single exotic explain that
-
I don't agree. Once you have most of the exotics in the game, it's very hard to get one or two that you need to complete your collection. You're going to get dupes in the process. However, I do believe certain items are weighted more than others.

Bought Icebreaker at Jan. Got Ghorn at late Jan. Got Sorus two weeks ago. Got Thunderload two days ago. It's all RNG. I got two Res Death, Three Monte Carlo, two Patience and Time and lots duplicate exotic armor in the past.
-
Most likely there is a "luck" variable involved which is set when the character is made. I played both Everquest games and the developers had hidden modifiers. Woodelf ranger gets lower XP, halfling ranger gets XP bonus for example.
-
Didn't read lol I got thunder lord two weeks in a row from vog chest
-
I think there's a small element of this. I always get the same exotics. However last week after all the months playing I finally dropped Gally and Thubderlord with 3 days of each other. I think if people keep playin eventually they get the drop they are looking for (well unless that's black hammer...I'm currently on 9 sword breakers looking for BH to finally drop)
-
Patience and time x3 No land beyond x1 Dragons breath x2 Thunder x2 IB x4 TLW x3 Red death X1 Gally x0 Truth x0 Suros x0
-
It might be true what your saying but if you download a RNG app and have it randomly generate numbers 1 through 100 and repeat this 100 times or even 500 times and you will notice that the number 42 might pop up 10 times where as the number 43 never pops up until you've run the RNG 673 times lol. Now we know bungie uses a RNG system so imagine each number has a gun assigned to it and you quickly figure out why you haven't received certain guns.
-
Its your destiny to get a certain gun. :)
-
Doing crota yesterday, my buddy who has gjallarhorn says, come on let me get the suros already. Not five seconds later, we get the checkpoint from finishing the deathsinger, he gets suros and starts yelling like a little kid on Christmas. Was happy for him, he needs it haha

Someone is wearing their aluminum foil hat too tight.

My theory is that accounts have individualized and randomized weighted loot tables. Simplified Examples: Player that always gets Ghorn but never gets Suros 1-75 Some exotic not Ghorn or Suros 76-99 Ghorn 100 Suros Player that always gets Suros but never gets Ghorn 1-75 Some exotic not Ghorn or Suros 76-99 Suros 100 Ghorn
-
I have only once received a duplicate drop and have 10 exotic weapons And that was the ice breaker It dropped from NF after i bought it from xur finally No not a christmas noob Just could never get it
-
1000 hours no red death it doesn't matter about players or time
-
I got 2 suros' last week, and I got ghorn this week.. I also have icebreaker. I think some exotics definitely have a smaller chance than other, but I don't think it assigns you a profile and says you get IB and suros but will never get thunder or ghorn.
-
I think this post is actually plausible. A smart game designer whose goal is retention would implement something like this. However, it probably wouldn't be a hard 0% chance for the "no" weapons for a given player. Instead they would skew the probability tables so that everyone had one or two prized guns that were very low probability - say 0.001% chance instead of the usual 0.1% chance. This would mean that some users would still get all of the guns, so the community would believe it's possible. But this would be rare and the vast majority of users would keep grinding to get there.
-
So the gun assigned to me is DB. What is life. Not ball.
-
Ayy I'm Player 3 with SUROS, Ice Breaker, Gjally, and Thunderlord.
-
Unfortunately I can't get suros and hard light Guess what's weighted in my favour? Good old gally I had 7 FFS I don't want any more
-
I agree completely. I've played with enough people to see the patterns start to develop. Tough to convince other people though. You are the first person that I know of that agrees with me.
-
I believe it.
-
I agree with you
-
I've gotten every one of those from random drops....
-
I agree with you 100%. I was just telling my wife this same theory (she plays with me). I really think Bungie randomly assigns each account created with a certain weapon drop percentage package. It's just like you said they have to control the weapon flow of the game and also keep people busy, always searching for that unicorn. For instance she had two Thunderlords before and an icebreaker before I had either. Then on my side I was getting multiple Hawkmoons. Just because something is RNG doesn't mean results can't be weighted.
