Behold the reason Gjallarhorn, Thunderlord and many other weapons wont drop for YOU
Most of us are blinded by the holiness of RNGsus. But I'm a sceptic and a non-believer, so I have a theory of why YOU wont get a certain weapon, but others will.
Now, we all think that it's all based on RNG, but I don't really think so. I do understand the concept of randomness, but I don't believe that's a fact in this concern.
I am gonna use two examples:
Player 1:
- has Thunderlord and Gjallarhorn
- want Ice Breaker and SUROS
Player 2:
- has SUROS and Ice Breaker
- want Thunderlord and Gjallarhorn
Player 1 and 2 keeps on grinding for their wanted weapons, but usually get random crap drops. And to top that, they get multiple drops of the exotics they already have. (like me, i've gotten 3 No Land Beyond from Crota)
And this is where my theory comes in...
Bungie has a system (fixed RNG), that basicly makes it (nearly) impossible for you to get the weapons you are missing. It's like your profile is assigned to certain weapons. Me, I get SUROS all the time.
So a simple example for this system would be:
"Drops assigned to Player 1: Thunderlord, Gjallarhorn etc" (these are the drops always handed out)
"Drops avoided for Player 1: Ice Breaker, SUROS, etc" ( these are the drops that might never happen)
(same with Player 2,3,4,5,6,7, infinity)
I know there are many RNGsus followers out there, and by all means, praise him! But me, I'm not fooled by this non-sense anymore. Just like anything else, Bungie likes to control the community, so they control RNG as well.
Yeah, I know, Bungie started selling Ice Breaker, which was hard to get for many of us. But that was also their decision. Why do you think it became available shortly after CE? To soothe the masses to keep them playing.
Conclusion: Players will always get the same drops, and will most likely never get that one thing they are missing (in my case Gjallarhorn).
Hope i made sense. I've been thinking about this for a long time, but never been able to put a word to it. Maybe i wasn't able now either... I might be wrong, but I'm sure my points makes it clear enough.

I see many say they have all Exotics, and asks me to explain that. Well, that's cause Bungie decided that your profile, amongst others, could. That's why.

*sigh* This wasn't actually meant to be a post about weapons never dropping, cause they can. It's just that it is controlled by Bungie. Sure, some of you have played for 500 hours and finally gotten a certain weapon. But because the community is continously growing, Bungie decides to hand out X amount of, ie, GHs a day, but still manage to control the weapon flow.

I've tried my best to answer most posts I've seen fit. Thankfully most have been serious posts. Some not.
I am now going to get a beer and my whisky bottle, sit down, and play some Strikes. Will check in later to see if this is still alive.

4 RepliesHere is some rng for us. Death singer I get no land beyond after finishing Crota I get red death. Both check points give a chance for exotic drops. Bother gave me exotics next raid what did I get from them two check points energy and shards and a helmet. So really it is all about a rng code Cuz at a certain point I think everything has a numbered assigned to it yes Ghorn probably has only 1 number and no land beyond or dragons breath may have 10 but they all have a number and the computer picks a random let's say 6 digit code and it matches that code up with what ever is on the loot table.

3 RepliesI agree with this. Ive had 3 last words in the past two weeks. 3 Vision of confluences and 2 ice breakers (one dropped the day after buying from Xur). Fatebringer/Vex are never gonna drop for me i know it

Other things of note is 2 icebreakers, 2 Ghorns, 2 hard lights, and 3-4 thunderlords. I've gotten multiples of nearly every exotic, and am only missing Red Death and Necrochasm.. the reason? RNG. The numbers have not generated in such a way that Red Death and crux have not dropped for me.. no conspiracy.. take off the tin foil hat.

This is not correct at all I have all Xbox exotic weapons but necro, that I don't even try to get cause I could careless at this point about getting another worthless exotic.

Been playing since week 1. I know it's supposed to be BS, but since I have all the exotic armors I want already i bought three different speaker 'blessing' emblems, one for each character, about two weeks ago, and have had more different exotics drop from bosses than ever, (even taking about 6 days off for Mardi Gras)....jumped into a team at deathsinger last night and got red death, now am only missing the Ghorn.

Missing the necrochasm and monte carlo. You invalidate your own theory by putting so many exceptions. Like saying D and F will always happen. But if A happens it's special. Oh, and Z could possibly happen also. But only D and F are the main events. And if the other letters not mentioned happens, those are just irregularities and shouldn't be considered even if they occur at the same rate.

RNG is RNG. Change your playing pattern and you'll get different drops. I never used to get hand canons. I do different things now and I got all 3 exotic ones in last few weeks. 2 fatebringers at once. As for duplicates, the more exotics you have the more likely you are to get something you already have. Explain how my friend got ice breaker right after turning 20 and never got a second since?

If rng was perfectly random then you would have a 1 in 6 chance of getting a vex. Every hard completion I've had, at least 1 person got it (I think 2 people got it on one of my completions). Yet in my 25 completions, I've only gotten it once and over half the time it goes to the person who is dead and/or the lowest level. I got mine on my second attempt and I was a dead 29.

The id has some numbers in it that with designed math can form numbers that will assign which weapon kind you'll get dropped more often than others, and which will drop less. I don't believe RNG is 100% random, but I do believe it is random. It is definitely weighted in some way. What I have suggested I'm sure I'm not correct in it, but there are weights to it, for example to raise the chance of getting an exotic weapon you have recently received, has a higher chance than an exotic weapon you didn't receive for a while.

I've had every exotic drop apart from red death and 4th horseman. Most of them have been dismantled.

Really similar to what I was thinking, you just put it better than i did :D I'd like to add to this the fact that Bungie have a top expert on human addiction working with them, so you know there's some form of system in place with the 'RNG' I think maybe it IS RNG up to a point, but when the game has given you all but asy 5 items, you'll struggle to get those 5. Then once you've got 2 or 3 of your coveted 5, the game still has 1 or 2 items you're yet to see. That's when it stops and your chances of those last golden items are reduces massivley. If the game gives you everything, why would you keep grinding? We keep going back for that last piece of the collection but we won't get it easily and they do that on purpose because we just can't help it.

For all those saying perfectly random, please explain how my first vex dropped on my 33rd hard attempt. The following 5 drops (34th-38th) 4 out of 5 dropped the vex again. There is clearly a stronger weight on a weapon dropping once you finally get it the first time.

My theory is just that some weapons have a lot less chance of dropping than others (same with being included in Xur's loot table, if he IS random). Bungie alter this % chance every so often to even the playing field, as it were. Also I think that each week, there is a loot table of exotics that can be found through deathsinger/atheon/crota/VoG chest & maybe nightfalls (though I think nightfalls is a separate one). We've had so many people get the same exotic in the same week too many times for this theory to not be viable.

4 RepliesIt's random. This kind of stuff was being posted in the borderlands 2 forums ages ago. Your brain will always try to make sense of things and likes looking for patterns, there aren't any. I do believe the RNG system is weighted where item A might only have a 0.00005% chance of dropping and item B might have 5% chance of dropping, but its still random!
