Most of us are blinded by the holiness of RNGsus. But I'm a sceptic and a non-believer, so I have a theory of why YOU wont get a certain weapon, but others will.
Now, we all think that it's all based on RNG, but I don't really think so. I do understand the concept of randomness, but I don't believe that's a fact in this concern.
I am gonna use two examples:
Player 1:
- has Thunderlord and Gjallarhorn
- want Ice Breaker and SUROS
Player 2:
- has SUROS and Ice Breaker
- want Thunderlord and Gjallarhorn
Player 1 and 2 keeps on grinding for their wanted weapons, but usually get random crap drops. And to top that, they get multiple drops of the exotics they already have. (like me, i've gotten 3 No Land Beyond from Crota)
And this is where my theory comes in...
Bungie has a system (fixed RNG), that basicly makes it (nearly) impossible for you to get the weapons you are missing. It's like your profile is assigned to certain weapons. Me, I get SUROS all the time.
So a simple example for this system would be:
"Drops assigned to Player 1: Thunderlord, Gjallarhorn etc" (these are the drops always handed out)
"Drops avoided for Player 1: Ice Breaker, SUROS, etc" ( these are the drops that might never happen)
(same with Player 2,3,4,5,6,7, infinity)
I know there are many RNGsus followers out there, and by all means, praise him! But me, I'm not fooled by this non-sense anymore. Just like anything else, Bungie likes to control the community, so they control RNG as well.
Yeah, I know, Bungie started selling Ice Breaker, which was hard to get for many of us. But that was also their decision. Why do you think it became available shortly after CE? To soothe the masses to keep them playing.
Conclusion: Players will always get the same drops, and will most likely never get that one thing they are missing (in my case Gjallarhorn).
Hope i made sense. I've been thinking about this for a long time, but never been able to put a word to it. Maybe i wasn't able now either... I might be wrong, but I'm sure my points makes it clear enough.
*edit 1*
I see many say they have all Exotics, and asks me to explain that. Well, that's cause Bungie decided that your profile, amongst others, could. That's why.
*edit 2*
*sigh* This wasn't actually meant to be a post about weapons never dropping, cause they can. It's just that it is controlled by Bungie. Sure, some of you have played for 500 hours and finally gotten a certain weapon. But because the community is continously growing, Bungie decides to hand out X amount of, ie, GHs a day, but still manage to control the weapon flow.
*edit 3*
People seem to be believe I'm saying stuff never drops. If it says that somewhere in my post (I've tried to reword myself), that's not what I'm saying. Please, read my post over again, especially "edit 2".
*edit 4*
Well, I expected a lot of flaming since my so called theory is far fatched, flawed and simply crappy :P
I've tried my best to answer most posts I've seen fit. Thankfully most have been serious posts. Some not.
I am now going to get a beer and my whisky bottle, sit down, and play some Strikes. Will check in later to see if this is still alive.
Hopefully I will prove myself wrong and get GH tonight... hrhrhhr

Edited by IrishSean37: 7/26/2015 2:39:56 AMWell been playing 50+ hrs a week since I bought the game on December 7th 2014 and I have yet to get gjallahorn or black hammer I second the fact that I get multiples for instance I've received 10+ truths land beyonds I have 1 of each character don't know why but would like those weapons by the time I get them there will be something better oh and by the way once a exotic has dropped it will continue too

Your theory sucks, every exotic has dropped for me multiple times
-
Think about it... ITS YOUR DESTINY
-
Edited by DuuJ: 4/16/2015 12:09:45 AMSo that's why I always get Truth and the same exotic bounties when it's an exotic drop. I've had 3 now. Otherwise I never get exotics.
-
Every exotic I get is normally different, the only repeats I got were a 2nd Ghallahorn, a 3rd vex, a 2nd Suros, a 2nd last word, and a 4th no land beyond

I view the RNG system like the NBA lottery (and i don't mean rigged lol). It is a random draw, however, certain guns have more "lottery balls" in the basket than others. Example would be: say there are 12 balls in play. 6 balls would be labeled for No Land Beyond, 3 would be for Ice Breaker, 2 would be for Thunderlord, and 1 would be for Gally. Every drop you get has this same breakdown. Thusly, it is more likely to get the lower tiered gun (higher number of lottery balls) every time.

I think it's pre determined like when I got my 3rd gally from lvl 28 Poe who ever had been fireteam member 1 2 or 3 I don't remember which I was was getting that weapon.
-
i think that it is true because althought i have all pre HoW exotic weapons , some never dropped for me and i bought them from xur (suros) but others drop regularly. i think this is RNG but the rng seed number is based on maybe your characters creation or gamertag or some mix...

Good post but you missed out a crucial detail. That Bungie is in fact, staffed entirely by reptile people from Antartica who are preparing the surface world for their glorious, scaly return.
-
This is not true a lot of people including me have every exotic
-
Agreed, I've got all the weapons one could want and need but no gjallarhorn. I think its region based. Theres just to many people to account for.
-
Honestly, it's all speculation. The only way to prove any theory is to read the programming code for the game and see how drops are programmed. Similar to the way it was verified Xur wasn't random. Well, that was until Bungie changed it after the truth came out.
-
Ive got all exotics but gally and crux. At least 15 vex 10bdragon breath around 8 mida and thunderlords. And 4ish of every other exotic. No gally tho. And ive done crota hard on all 3 characters every week since it started and no crux. There is deff something wrong with destinys rng but its rng so theres absolutely no way to prove it. Today i got 2 plan c 2 vex and 2 universal remotes. Just today seriously how random is that. Nice for shards but the odds ???
-
Just got Flawless Raider the other week than decided to go open the gorgon chest right after and POOF Gjallarhorn!
-
I agree with you
-
No all I need is gally it took my 4 tries to get crux and 5 weeks to get all the rest of exotics...
-
Just got Flawless Raider the other week than decided to go open the gorgon chest right after and POOF Gjallarhorn!

Edited by Mortug: 4/10/2015 8:40:12 AMJesus, is this thread still alive? Haven't visited this site for a month probably. Haven't touched Destiny for over a month. Wow, just, wow. *edit* Btw, how the hell do people still find this thread? I can't even find it on the forums.

You're trying to assign patterns to a huge amount of data using minuscule sample sizes. The reason why it seems like you're getting duplicates more often is because the more stuff you have, the more likely it is you'll receive a duplicate. A player with zero exotics will never get a duplicate exotic. A player with every exotic will only receive duplicate exotics. Your odds to receive a particular weapon don't change from player to player.
-
I'm sure this is probably something that you've heard already, but you're simply perceiving patterns among RNG, which, in your defense, is human nature. Extreme praise to you for putting your theory out there, though-it's a lot harder to propose a theory than to criticize someone else's
-
Let's say you have a bowl with 50 M&Ms in it, 5 each of 10 different colors. You blindly remove 1 at a time, and after pulling 40 of them from the bowl, you have duplicates of 9 colors, but only 9 colors. Does this mean the good folks who make M&Ms control what colors you get? No. It means you had a pool of 10 colors, and need to pull 41 M&Ms to get each color. Just because something is in the bowl, it does not guarantee your going to get it.
