Its pretty simple, to get gear through a drop you had to do something so you earned it. To purchase something with strange coins you had to complete a weekly heroic strike at least a couple times. Therefore you earned it that way as well. Either way you are playing the game to get the reward so i don't get why this is a issue. Oh yea cause people have to feel superior than others and make it into a ridiculous issue it doesn't need to be.
