Is buying Exotics from Xur "Earning" them?
If you voted yes, no, or kinda, comment below why or why not it is or is not "earning". After seeing so much controversy on this subject I want to see what some people have to say, you are all entitled to your opinions so have at it Guardians!!!

Getting exotics is random buying them is earning buy doing the weeklys

I say kinda, doing the weekly and saving up the coin and waiting for that smart buy is earned. That with the horrible RNG, nothing is truly earned.

Depends on how you define "earning" If it means that you did tons of hours and then got the drop then buying from xur is also hard work.. Why? Because I bet many people who buy from xur have spent as many ours as you have, they just don't have the same luck.. Saving up strange coins and waiting for that lucky day when xur brings it, in my opinion is also"earning" it.

Yes. You had to grind for the strange coins save them and then wait for the exotic you wanted to be released. Plain and simple

I play the weekly heroic which is always a guaranteed 9 coins. I earned those coins. A few weeks later I now have 23 coins and Xur is selling an exotic primary I really want. I earned those 23 coins playing 3 weeks of weekly heroic. Ergo I earned that gun he was selling. Sitting AFK in ROC Playlist and getting an exotic drop is not earning. That's luck. I would even argue getting exotics after beating a raid boss isn't earning since it's not 100% guaranteed. But since some people play the raids multiple times a week for months and get nothing then finally get one is a way of earning. Universal Remote dropped for me in crucible. I didn't earn that. I was 4th on my team with a 1.4kd. Top player got nothing. That was stupid luck that I didn't earn. Xur sold The Last Word a couple of weeks ago. I had the coins saved up from weekly heroics. I bought it. That I earned

I say no because....its just something about grinding and grinding and when you think you can't grind anymore you look up and there's your exotic or legendary for example I got the last word on a weekly nightfall one gun I never thought I'd use but I actually like it then on vanguard ROC I got it again a few weeks later then while turning in a bounty for doing more vanguard ROC playlists I stumbled upon the exotic bounty for bad juju me being a warlock I had to take it finally my own class gun....so when you think the RNG is being crappy just give it time also I'm not against buying from xur but when I got my ice breaker I feel like I didn't earn it like a hand out same if I bought the jelly horn (to lazy to try and spell it) that's why I feel the way I do on buying from xur

Xur exotics are the only exotics you actually earn you have to earn strange coins by grinding the game unless you have multiple characters you can only get 9 coins from the weekly heroic so you have to grind for the rest last I checked xur sells armor for 13 coins and weapons for 17 coins

You acquired the strange coins through regular gameplay and used that currency to by an exotic. It's as much earning as anything else you get in this game.

Because you have to play lots(sometimes)to get the coins, takes up time, just like it does to try to find exotics, in a sense

1 ReplyIts pretty simple, to get gear through a drop you had to do something so you earned it. To purchase something with strange coins you had to complete a weekly heroic strike at least a couple times. Therefore you earned it that way as well. Either way you are playing the game to get the reward so i don't get why this is a issue. Oh yea cause people have to feel superior than others and make it into a ridiculous issue it doesn't need to be.

Buying your exotics from xur is the only way to earn them, anything else is a random drop of luck not earned! You have to "earn" all the coins required so takes time and effort!! Well bounties I guess would count aswell!! Dnt let anybody tell you different, there's no skill in having one drop by luck
