I can imagine some really cool lore behind that. A weapon that absorbs surrounding energy and uses it for power. I imagine that the exotic perk would be deal additional damage and improve a forms of speed on the weapon at the cost of ones health. The user is feeding their own power into it. Maybe even feed your own super energy or something.
