Edited by anUNRULYfan: 4/12/2015 6:43:49 PMIt takes on a somewhat oval shape due to flattening of the poles caused by earths rotation on it's axis. The shape that best represents the earth is an ember, but on maps and globes the earth looks oval or spherical due to it being projected onto one of the several geodetic datums that have been used throughout history.

Technically it's an oblate spheroid, but it's more near a sphere than a oval for sure.
