That author is my Destiny clone. I have had the exact same issues (5 No Land Beyonds and no Gjallarhorn, after 500+ hours of gameplay, but the similarities don't stop there and are too numerous to list). It's pretty much spot on though, and the exact same reasons why I plan to take a break for awhile too. I'm going to try some other games until HoW comes out. Hopefully this break will help me get over the frustrations of the RNG loot system, Xur, and "balancing", so that I can enjoy it more in a few months.
