I deleted all my characters and all my gear and uninstalled the game from my PS4 about 4 days ago. I figured today I'd get back on to the forums just for fun to see what the reset NF and weekly is (not that I could participate with all my loot and characters gone lol).
I saw this post and I decided to read the kotaku.com post. For me... this is why I left Destiny... this is a quote from the kotaku.com post:
"Oh, shit, I've started playing Destiny for the wrong reasons. In the past, I used to hassle Jason when he'd say there was "no reason" to do some mission or other. What he meant was, there's no useful loot we can get out of it. He was working under the assumption that we only play Destiny for the loot.
"But it'll be fun!" I'd counter. This game is, after all, fundamentally very fun to play. Surely that's enough?
Lately, my mentality has changed. I find myself performing cold mental calculations to determine the worth-itness of a given undertaking. I always did that, mind you, but nowadays, it's my primary calculation, rather than a secondary one."
When I started making those "worth-itness" calculations a couple weeks ago... I started to realize I was done with this game. It was very fun while it lasted though... and for several months... Destiny was one of my all-time favorite (or at least obsessive) gaming experiences.
GG Destiny. And good luck to all the other Guardians still trudging onward. I wish you all the best!
