Maybe this is why Bungie removed the materials for marks/reputation system...

So, I had a thought about this. Since the removal of the material for marks exchange wasn't mentioned in any notes prior to the DLC and since they did institute a new exchange of marks for materials, what if they didn't intend for the material for marks to be removed? I haven't read anywhere about anyone at Bungie/Activision even acknowledging that the original exchange system was removed. Kind of like how we lose ammo when we die or go to orbit or how heavy ammo on the ground disappears when a rocket is fired in the area. They only just recently acknowledged the heavy ammo issue. What if in the process of instituting the new exchange system some code was overwritten or screwed up? Just a thought. EDIT: I have no idea why people are commenting on this again. This is a very old post that was last edited (before this edit) Feb. of 2015.

 • You can't say that they took it out so people couldn't farm crucible marks/rep. The exchange rate for vanguard marks for materials and then materials into crucible marks is so lopsided it doesn't make sense doing it that way. It would seem in that case it makes more sense to farm materials then trade them straight up for marks/rep, either crucible or vanguard. Which is what the old system allowed anyway prior to the DLC.
