Why aren't YOU using Shotguns in PVE?
Do share, why don't you use them? And I'd rather have more specific reason than "I don't like them" (which is a valid reason ofcourse), because I'm curious why don't you like them.

I run them occasionally on patrol, but running the nightfall with a shotgun usually ends badly for the user

I engage enemies at mid range and no shotgun can effectively take a target or targets out at that distance. Shotguns only good in PvP, and not in PvE.

Because the range is abysmal, and about to get worse. They're fun to screw around with, but practically useless in high-end content. Getting in the face of one target usually means getting in the faces of all the bad guys, because they tend to clump together. That's not normally a good idea. And getting close to a boss is pretty much suicide ... They all have a OHK stomp of some kind. Fusion rifles are a far better and more versatile option for close to mid range.

Because with the time it would take to run across the map to shotgun something, I could have already killed it with a sniper rifle... Or my primary.

If you're consistently close enough to enemies for shotguns to be effective in PVE and you're not just trying to melee everything, you're gonna have a bad time.

I used to use them more but I'm more of a long range player, so I've been using long range fusion rifles more often

Any main boss encounter, there is no benefit to getting up close and personal

Because icebreaker is a better choice. Easy to point blank no scope with it.

Don't fancy going face to face with phogoth just to get the shotty to hit. Let's be honest here, most of the bosses have a stomp kinda move they do if you get too close, renders shotguns useless

Because they are not one shot kill like in PvP the Mobs just beat you down

Sure they can't do anything against a strike boss unless you are a defender Titan, but against anything else you will find they do a ton of damage. I find the 2x damage boost unwarranted as the people who were always using them like us thought they were already awesome. So a win win for us, PvE Invective and Universal Remote is a beautiful thing with the right set up. Oh yeah if these are really double damage swordbreaker will 2 hit minotaurs. Can't wait til the patch is released. edit: Plus the HoW exotic is a shotgun

4 RepliesThe shotguns need the pve damage boost before they are usable. I like mine but only usable for grunt mobs at this time.

Let's see: They are useless against nearly every strike boss since you can't get that close very often. Who wants to stand in front of Valus or Phogoth with a shotgun?! They are dangerous against higher end raid enemies like knights, and useless since you'll already be dead against ogres. Oh, and as stated already, burns, lightswitch, and angry on nightfalls make them useless.
