Why aren't YOU using Shotguns in PVE?
Do share, why don't you use them? And I'd rather have more specific reason than "I don't like them" (which is a valid reason ofcourse), because I'm curious why don't you like them.

I do use them sometimes in combination with the titan bubble and helm of saint 14 ( secret handshake is my current favorite )

1 ReplyIt's too close. Most bosses have a melee kill. More chances of dying. I kill faster with other guns. Simple I will use the shot gun when it has 2 x damage.

The range on shotguns are horrible and they're nerfing them more. They're really f u c k I n g up with all these nerfs. Getting really tired of it

Large mobs have great melee. Shotty doesn't dmg enough to take the risk.

1 ReplyBecause lightswitch makes them invalid. For everything not lightswitch, my invective sees a lot of use. Can't wait for the PvE buff. Will make taking Preatorians down so much easier.

1 ReplyI stopped using shotguns because i'm leveling up my exotic special weapons. it took a while, but soon i'll be back to the ol' found verdict. might also buy secret handshake. is SH any good?

Because Plan C beats everything, and Ice Breaker is Ice Breaker. Also, limited ammo and range for shotgun makes it meh in PvE. I have my melee ability if things get too tough in close combat.

4 Repliespoor range. and the fact that they dont' do enough damage. a level 6 knight on earth patrol can take 2 shots from 331 shotgun from about 2 feet away. on most shotguns that's about half the clip. then you have a couple more before the 47 second reload animation. yeah, try using one on a level 26 ROC strike. or a raid. 2 RepliesI rarely use them because I think they are cheap. Every match in crucible there's at leaset one guy with a shotty and nothing else. When you run into a room and kill one guy, that one guy's teammates are all gonna shoot you so while you die with 100 points they get 100 points plus the two 50 points for the assists. Additionally if you use nothing but shotguns in the crucible and you find yourself in a medium to long range situation what are you gonna do with a shotgun? Nothing you simply don't have enough range. To many people rely on shotguns that is bordering on insanity.

My play style leans more to further ranged weapons and I haven't really found a shotgun I enjoy enough to get up close for PvE

Because, being a fairly average shot, my sniper is much more effective and safe. That and I love snipers (I also love Shotguns too, but I'd rather not be Ghosting).
