[Social Experiment] How would you feel if you were drafted by the U.S. Military? And Why?

Completely Disagree (attempt to evade draft)

360

Morally Disagree (do not evade, but be drafted)

368

Agreement (drafted, in military, support draft)

386

Other (specify)

105

Let's take the social experimenting in a different direction. Once again, there is no right or wrong answer, each answer can be inferred for more than the answers itself, and each answer can be related to point of view. However, this time, we are experimenting moral compass with personal convictions about the U.S. Military. We are using a hypothetical situation, that would probably not occur in actuality. So heres the situation: The U.S Congress approves a draft for a war in the Middle East. Obviously, as there is not a draft currently, so the circumstances that the U.S. Government have observed to send volunteer troops there now has changed, and this is now a substantial matter of national and international security. The "lottery" (a system by which they select draftees) is in place, and you are an appropriate aged male. By laws surrounding a U.S. draft, students are able to finish their semesters, and Seniors in college are allowed to finish the year. After these periods of schooling, you are eligible to be drafted. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ And here is the question: How would you personally react to being drafted? Why is this so? And what is your background (student, in the work force, professional, etc.) currently? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Also, if you chose to evade the draft, you must keep in mind that you are endangering/revoking your citizenship with the U.S. and are now prohibited from the country. If you are already in the military, then you would presumably be okay with being drafted into the military, and thank you for your service. Also, if you are ineligible currently to be drafted, neglect that, and consider yourself eligible. Answers like "but I is 14 I no military" and "I not from merica" are inadequate for this social experiment. Finally, every time you vote in a poll and do not comment, you become incredibly hungry, but are not in the mood for anything in your house.
badgerforninja2k15
IF YOU ARE NOT AMERICAN OR NOT ELIGIBLE FOR A DRAFT, I DONT CARE. I'M ASKING A HYPOTHETICAL QUESTION. IMAGINE YOU ARE AMERICAN, OR IMAGINE I AM ASKING YOU IF YOUR COUNTRY DRAFTED YOU TO ITS MILITARY IN A WAR SITUATION.

Seeing as I disagree with the concept of a draft and the war in the Middle East... I'd probably evade the draft and move to Canada!

    • Depending on the circumstances for the war declaration, I would probably support it though.

    • I would not be happy. I certainly wouldn't dodge the draft, though.

    • Not sure if I would evade or not, but I definitely wouldn't be happy. Countries fighting countries is a horrible concept. The actual people fighting don't hate each other. Generally it's the countries. I'm not a fan of war.

    • I ain't American, But since I have no idea whats going on in the middle east, and no government officials or the media can give a straight answer, and since the middle east covers a dozen countries and two continents and has been in conflict for ages, I'll oppose, but might join. If its really -blam!-ed up and the US army doesn't have its shit together Vietnam style, and I'll be away a really long time, I'll skip the draft and head to Canada.

I wouldnt mind. Personally, i feel that witht the rise in feminism, the selective service/draft should apply to men and women alike. Equal treatment

I'd be more of a liability than an asset in the military. They wouldn't even accept.

      • While it is possible that I could be drafted, I am not a good fit for military. I am not very physically fit, I question orders, and I disobey stupid orders for the sake of preserving my own life. That being said, I probably would not make it through any form of boot camp.

      • I am of the opinion that mandatory military service upon reaching adulthood would serve the state of the country well.

      • I'd be happy if I were drafted before this summer. I'm already enlisted so it would just quicken the process and get me out of the DEP.

I'd do anything in my power to not get into action. I'm extremely lazy and can only hear from 1 ear. So suck it.

      • Well, I have two thoughts for this. One, I'd join as soon as I thought a draft was imminent. Drafts are used to fill enlisted ranks, typically infantry, and typically because they're getting killed. I'm too smart for infantry. College degree in engineering, demonstrated leadership skills. I'm not going to take a risk of being handed a rifle and shoved to the front lines. Second, I think mandatory civil service would do our country well. Could be military, engineer corps, peace corps, or some new area.

          • Best case scenario I'd claim to be a pacifist and refuse under being a "conscientious objector" and try to get out of it that way. Worst case scenario, I'd flee the country. I've never liked the military as an institution because I see it as being a governmental puppet with even less power than the average citizen to change anything. "Dying/fighting for your country" doesn't mean anything anymore, and you end up just another name on a memorial or sob story. My country owes me more than I owe it.

            • Forced military service, or the "draft", is immoral. The concept of a Draft is completely contradictory to the ideals of a free people in a free society.
