[Social Experiment] How would you feel if you were drafted by the U.S. Military? And Why?
Let's take the social experimenting in a different direction. Once again, there is no right or wrong answer, each answer can be inferred for more than the answers itself, and each answer can be related to point of view. However, this time, we are experimenting moral compass with personal convictions about the U.S. Military. We are using a hypothetical situation, that would probably not occur in actuality.
So heres the situation: [b]The U.S Congress approves a draft for a war in the Middle East. Obviously, as there is not a draft currently, so the circumstances that the U.S. Government have observed to send volunteer troops there now has changed, and this is now a substantial matter of national and international security. The "lottery" (a system by which they select draftees) is in place, and you are an appropriate aged male. By laws surrounding a U.S. draft, students are able to finish their semesters, and Seniors in college are allowed to finish the year. After these periods of schooling, you are eligible to be drafted. [/b]

Also, if you chose to evade the draft, you must keep in mind that you are endangering/revoking your citizenship with the U.S. and are now prohibited from the country. If you are already in the military, then you would [i]presumably[/i] be okay with being drafted into the military, and thank you for your service. Also, if you are ineligible currently to be drafted, neglect that, and consider yourself eligible. Answers like "but I is 14 I no military" and "I not from merica" are inadequate for this social experiment.
Finally, every time you vote in a poll and do not comment, you become incredibly hungry, but are not in the mood for anything in your house.

I'm a student in College and I'd go willingly. It would suck but there's no escaping it. If a draft were to ever be in place, it's for a serious reason.

I'm apposed to why american is the Middle East (freedom my arse) not like my country (Australia) has a better reason to be either but I'd still go if I was drafted. Mainly because of some stupid sense of honor more than anything else, and the fact my friends and family would be in the same boat so much rather be there to at least try and protect them somehow instead of hiding in protest. Plus draft dodging just seems cowardly I know that's not necessarily why someone would do it but whatever their reason it comes offs cowardly. If we want to push the hypothetical further and the war was truly and utterly unjust i.e american was just trying for world domination while committing genocide and other atrocities like that, i'd evade the draft and join a rebel group, or still join the draft and try sabotage from the inside

I'm a Mennonite (variety of Christian) so I'm kind of a special case. One of the central tenets of our faith is non-resistance, which means that we take the Bible's commands to turn the other cheek, love your enemies, etc. seriously, meaning that we believe going to war is wrong for a Christian. And because of freedom of religion the government can't send us to war. Historically they usually put drafted Mennonite men (and men from similar faiths) to work at domestic tasks for their term of service, such as working in a hospital, building infrastructure, and many other things. So I wouldn't dodge the draft, but I couldn't go to war.

1 ReplyI'm not going into a foreign country to fight a war over oil and make the people in congress richer. The only way I would accept it is if the fight was taking place on american soil. I wouldn't just accept it, I would be at the front of the line volunteering. [spoiler]We all know the draft is unconstitutional anyways[/spoiler]

If it was a legitimate war I doubt theyd need to use the draft because we can all agree the wars that had the draft were bullshit.... So yeah id take that as my opportunity to get the -blam!- out of this country

EDIT: if it was something like ww2 and we weren't pulled into it by consipiracy or for corrupt reasons then I'd gladly fight

I would not be drafted as a front line soldier but I'll working as an engineer for chemical weapons. The more painful deaths and childbirth defects, the better :)

I'd probably attempt to finish up the semester, maybe College as a whole and then finally be drafted. I have no problem with it.

I would hate to be drafted to the military, but if there in desperate need of soldiers I would do it but I won't like it,and this could change my life forever.

8 RepliesI picked other. I've already served upon discharge I was given a re-enlistment code of 2X. Meaning I'm ineligable for re-enlistment. So [i]even if[/i] a draft were to happen. I would stay here.

3 RepliesYou can't revoke the citizenship of a natural born citizen. I'd be pissed if I were drafted since I already served (many years ago). I'd probably refuse and be jailed.
