Online coop campaign?
Just looking for a straight answer, can you play the campaign with friends online?

No, it's an offline single player only, you need to look elsewhere.

Aside from the very first sequence in the game, you can experience the whole story with two other guardians. Most activities have a max of 3 players. If you participate in Crucible matches or Raids, then you can have up to six players together at once.

I think for some, but not all missions. Most accept fireteams, but, for example, the first level does not. There are probably other solo missions, but I can't be sure. But for the majority, you can play with two friends.
