How easy do you waste time on Wikipedia?

So many times I have been reading a wikipedia page about.....lets say...history and end up with about 10 tabs waiting to be looked at which all link to subjects I know I'll find interesting which leads to another 3-4 tabs. I could spend hours just reading.

  • See, it either ends up just reading endless interesting articles, or doing wikipedia races with friends. Ex: start on ebola and make your way to Kanye West or something, and see who can do it first

  • I bet I can guess what your Wiki tabs are about.

    • To fully understand an article on Wikipedia, one must read all the linked articles in that article. Therefore to successfully read the Light article one must first read and/or understand the basics of the Electromagnetic radiation, Visual perception, Human eye, Wavelength, Nanometre, Infrared, Ultraviolet light, Intensity, Frequency, Wavelength, Spectrum, Polarization, Speed of light, Mathematical constant, Photon, Wave, Particle physics, Wave-particle duality, Optics, Physics articles (and more).

    • Pretty easily, although recently I've found myself having 15+ tabs of music on Youtube open. And let's not even get started on TV Tropes.

      • If I look up something on Wikipedia (especially if it is quantum physics or something) I usually have a bunch of tabs open to try to understand all the new terms.

I can easily kill several hours with 9-10 tabs open, mostly theoretical physics and cosmology. That and the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy.

When I was busy trying to kill time at school, I could easily spend 5-6 hours just reading tabs on everything from Dolphin brain structure to chemical compositions of whatever medicine came to mind <.< Having a reduced timetable with compulsory attendance days was... dull...

          • I don't go on the Wiki much. Only when I'm proving someone wrong or something. Reading in general? I usually set goals. For example, I would start reading at chapter one, and depending on if I'm tired or not, I'd read until chapter ten.
