why do all of the new members have their ID name as numbers?

(i dont know if this should go into #Feedback, #Bungie, or # Community but whatever) I know how the number is given/made (if you go to your profile page the last 7 numbers of the URL is your number), but i have to ask why are all of the new member's ID names not the same as their user name?

    • It looks like newer members have seven digits, but older members have less.

      • Every user has what's called a "bungie.net membership id" or "mid" - that's the number you see. Mine is 1, for example. In order to streamline the create new user dialog, we don't ask for a unique name during account creation, we just ask for a display name and email, and set your unique ID to that unique number until you try and change it later. This way, you won't ever get a "that name has already been used" error trying to create an account, which, to some people, might be frustrating enough to abandon the account creation process.

        • That's your unique user ID, it can be changed through the profile page.

          • They haven't switched it to their username. You can switch your ID once every 7 days, it's just the default when new accounts are created.
