Comp

It's crazy how lopsided the teams are ... competitive is supposed to be just that; competitive. It's not though, it's the same as all of PvP, every match is a blowout. PvP is horrible.

  • It’s the combination of variables, Low player population and it clearly try’s to hold up the 50% win ratio, towards the design rank in mind. This was implemented to give players the most play time. Aka player retention bungie whole foundation. Adding to this the weapons/heatlh stat meta. This gives worse teams a advantage over better players. So this needs to settle in. Then things will be more a even playing field. Appart from this everything involved around bungie combat rating is questionable as hell. But my recommendationplay it for what you need and get out. Bungie never intended for destiny be a competitive shooter.

  • Haven’t played comp in like 6 years decided to start grinding it for The Riposte. Ngl I was expecting to have a terrible time but surprisingly spent 3 days (it took 3 dang days to get the auto rifle..) and only had a couple terrible games out of like 65+ matches. Don’t know what changed but it seemed pretty neck and neck on roughly 80% of the games. Maybe once you finish placements it’ll start to even out

  • You either get paired with people who don’t know which way is up and go against the Guardian variants of John Wick and Jack Reacher Or You get paired with the Guardian variants of John Wick and Jack reacher and go against people who don’t know which way is up. Both scenarios take any fun out of PvP for me. I don’t like when matches are handed to me by Bungie’s algorithm and I don’t like being a handout match for someone that’s significantly better at the game than I am. Comp and Trials needs a tighter bracket margin for SBMM so players will go against others within their skill range. People who’re Ascendant should go against others in Ascendant just like those in Gold should go against others who’re in Gold. Trials truthfully just needs to be based around seasonal performance or make a system that bases Matchmaking around the statistic consistency through a short period of time (like 1-3 months) through a player’s overall Crucible performance within that period of time. That’s just my take on it. Comp and Trials are endgame PvP but it’s the equivalent of taking a team of 6 who’ve never done a raid before and throwing them right into a Contest Mode raid; it’s just not realistic and it takes the fun out of it for most people.

  • It's because D2 is peer-2-peer and mostly one player/ team gets the connection. So they have a big connection advantage.

      • Playing with atleast 1 other true fireteam member, will drastically change your odds from 33% to 66% chance of winning.

      • I can't be bothered with it as the armour & weapon drops are mainly standard crucible drops anyway. I don't care about the comp ranks but I would play it for the gear ... if it actually dropped. So until it's fixed I will just carry on playing casual pvp modes as it takes ages to even get a comp match and when you do, the gear doesn't even drop. 🤷

I get a mix of matches. There are more blowouts than you’d hope for and the range of skill within a match is often too wide for rank based matchmaking. Low population, janky peer-to-peer connections and players leaving/disconnecting don’t help. At this point, what can you expect really? It’s competitive PvP in a PvE focussed game. Bungie did everything but kill PvP completely. I guess just be glad it still exists, or don’t play it at all.
