I don't know how this could be done, but would it be possible in the future to allow "Matchmaking" for Raids and Dungeons?
Maybe it's already available, but I haven't seen it.

4 RepliesPeople don't even know how to pass the orb in the Corrupted strike. Matchmaking in dungeons and raids would be a disaster.
-
It could be done, but it won't because it's a bad idea.
-
2 RepliesDo yall see how much complaining there is about pvp matching and you think it is a good idea to add it to an activity that requires skill and coordination?
-
2 RepliesToo many ways to grief a raid intentionally or unintentionally. No. But dungeon sure, why not. They had something like that in trials of the nine.
-
Imagine matchmaking into a raid and you’re the only person that knows the mechanics… FAAAAHH
-
10 RepliesWon't happen. For some reason it's a concept that baffles Bungie. Fireteam finder, lfg discords, or find a clan. All three of those have worked out for me. Good luck.
-
9 RepliesNo, you are actually just wrong, dungeons could work as they can be soloed. However, raids can’t. If you knew anything at all about how raids work you’d know that unless you end up with a couple of sweats that carry while you ad clear in a corner this CANNOT work.
-
2 RepliesI see everyone's point...Very valid. It's hard to find people who want to commit to something like a Raid and I have seen people who join and do absolutely nothing. It's frustrating. Clans are not my favorite thing because, most become Toxic and then I leave. With dungeons, I could see that might be ok, since as you all have stated, you only get one revive token in Raids, and if someone "Blind Joins" a team member has to use their token. That would suck. I think there would be a solution. I am normally a solo player and would like to be able to work towards some exotics and gear that you normally don't have access to. With what's happening in the D2 game, it will be interesting to see if they come up with a solution.

More questions: What are you changing in the core game mechanics to balance fun, and engaging game play against the difficulty and grind we currently have? What do you see as the top ten reasons why players left D2 in the first place? Without this you have no hope of affecting meaningful change that brings players back and keeps them! Knowing that it is an evolutionary process, things may and will change along the way and that you said you would share, Why are you not sharing?

Edited by Sen: 10/16/2026 9:39:05 PMRaids are not designed for matchmaking and if you want them to adjust raids so that matchmaking would make sense, then you want activities like menagerie and the other 6 person match made activities that we've had over the years. There is usually no matchmaking for endgame and raids in most games because that defeats the purpose and design. I just don't understand why you don't get together with like-minded individuals who want to raid. This is how it's supposed to work and has worked for like every person. You can also join a clan or make one yourself to learn with others.

31 RepliesEdited by CHAN9E: 10/16/2026 6:21:24 AMI hope so.. Elitists ruin it and base thier opinon on hypotheticals and baseless claims that have zero validity as they have yet to be explored. How about just having your friends and you doing your own private game and letting us matchmaking people worry about out own games okay? .. more than likley, We will form our own teams, and start our own private games.. The opportunity needs to be available.

19 RepliesIt's called fireteam finder. I used it for over 2000 raids. What exactly is your issue with it?
-
5 RepliesThe FIRETEAM FINDER needs an overhaul, but mainly the REAL problem is people that hve run it a million times are the only ones posting and they don't want to bother with the very basic premise of communicating. Once again, the onboarding in Destiny ACROSS THE BOARD is abysmal and will remain that way till sherpas are encouraged and rewarded properly. As it stands now it is nearly impossible to find a willing squad to get back to basics and help others in a meaningful way. You can have "all the content in the world", but with an in game LFG that has boiled down to micless speed runs, it's become extremely unfriendly to newcomers, hence why the game has been struggling to attract anyone but the already indoctrinated.

Only for dungeons since they’re much easier to pickup the mechanics first run

Problem with matchmaking in raids is you need comms for most of them. Ok Kings fall and vog maybe without if everyone knows what to do and can type fast. Few issues I see right of the bat. 1. You'll get people who want a carry and not do mechanics. 2. Raids like the two latest absolutely needs a mic for. 3. People would quit mid game because of deaths or board. 4. Revive tokens are limited especially when you have most of the team not knowing mechanics. 5. Odds that no one will have a clue what to do. Only real solution would be a matchmade version with more or no revive tokens and watered down mechanics. As for rewards mer who cares if a match made version has the same rewards not important. Raids lite would be a good idea in general especially for matchmade. As for dungeons I don't see as many issues with them being match made just up or remove tokens.

Fireteam finder already exists if you want to find a team... you could also join a clan, or add people like me, who are willing to teach. Matching-making would NOT work in raids, for the following reasons : (1) revive tokens are not only limited, but are allotted one per player & there's no way to earn more (like by killing champs in GM's). When a new player joins mid-encounter, they spawn in dead, so if match-making forces someone into an open spot when the team has used all their tokens, then the whole team will wipe just cuz someone joined. (2) another problem is when people have connection issues. It would suck to get dc'd halfway thru the raid & cant even rejoin or get invited back because match-matching has already filled up your spot. (3) and what about the idiots who join with no mic, no clue, just standing around not contributing, or even worse, spewing hateful obscenities & insults? The entire fireteam would be at a stalemate, unable to proceed forward because there's no way to boot someone in a match-made activity. Everyone will inevitably leave the activity to escape the problematic person & then come complain in the forums about how match-making sucks & the community is toxic etc, etc, etc. (4) on the topic of leaving... when you launch a match-made raid, there's no way to tell which encounter you're spawning into or who your fireteam will be. People would load in & then just insta-leave if its not the encounter they want, or if they dont wanna teach, or cant do the role they like, etc. It would just end up being an endless carousel of people joining & leaving & joining & leaving, without any recourse for ditching your team. (5) and then there's the actual mechanics. Some of the raids randomly select players to do certain mechanics and/or require everyone to participate. What if its a slow day & match-making can only put together 4 players ? Are people gonna actually stick around to figure out how to 4-man the Herald encounter in SE, or the Bridge encounter in Crota? And imagine all the complications if match-making randomly spawns people into encounters with randomized buffs, like getting selected for the Temporality buff on Epoptes before you're even done loading in. Whatever you think is bad about Fireteam Finder now, it will be 1,000 times worse with Match-making.

There are no future raids or dungeons, so no.
-
Matchmaking for raids and dungeons, and for every other activity in the game, sounds good to me.
-
I think it could work for dungeons, but for raids as they are now I think it would be very bad. If raids had a matchmaking difficulty level with unlimited revives and no team wipes it might work, but I think the mechanics would also need changing to remove the need for a mic as too many would join without one.

1 ReplyThe average player would try matchmaking then quit. Then they might not even try to find a team that might be willing to actually try a little and not troll through a lfg.

Totally agreed > It was once possible in Dungeons with the Rite of The Nine event (it had Explorer[ez] and regular mode).. it was great and they vaulted it.... The argument against matchmaking would be 3 fold imo... 1. population too thin 2. need preparation and communcation especialy for raids 3. you'll see posting shortly the clan whiny crybabies who like having the clan group of people forced to work together ...of course FTF (FireteamFinder) exists as well to try to find people but that has huge issues and wasn;t the matchmaking we all wanted. Population #1 up there is simply handled by featuring only a few dungeons with matchmaking per week/month.. that would be awesome. Its also the reason we don;t get Freelance... Bungie believes their model is more sticky and they monetize more when you are forced to team up... thats why we have to continue to play stacks in PVP and not have matchmaking as you requested... maybe someday they'll change... -
This should definitely be a thing It would be hectic and have a learning curve but it would open the gates for raids... But I think it should be encounter based... So you start the raid... Complete an encounter claim chest... Then match for the next leg... To minimize possible problems... Post...
