I think I misunderstood the video Bungie put out. They clearly stated that they aren’t done with Destiny, but my question is… how? I see people talk about and say that Destiny 2 is “finished” all they’re doing is adding back all the unvaulted content and that’s that, I also see people say that Destiny isn’t a live service game anymore and even after they unvault everything they still aren’t going to update the game. My question to everyone is what’s the right answer PLEASE WITHOUT ANY SMART RESPONSES I’m genuinely trying to understand is the game finished how it is or are they going to continue with Destiny 2 after the unvault or are they literally just gonna make a new game, what does “and we are NOT done with Destiny” mean because if it just means they unvault content and that’s it then again there’s no hope. Someone please explain thank you for the understanding! :)

Its a fluid thing.. it changes based on data.. and financials.. and the gaming economy... ...so truly know one knows at all.. it is indeed a progress bar like whatever talking head said that.. and we just see the next thing until we hear the next news... ...I had thought they had a plan and would do something after their casting couch video but it seems they were trying to stop the decline of d2 sign ons... ..it worked and they climbed back up... now we wait.. for our fate .. dont take the bait.. and hope its not too late .. may be a while at this rate .. no matter what they will miss the date.. d2 is love and hate -
1 ReplyWhat we know is we are getting vaulted campaigns back for free but to what extent we don't yet know. As for what they said bare in mind this is just my interpretation and could be wrong. We will get back campaigns but seasons, episodes, adventures, Raids ect may not come back. As for D2 post unvault they'll leave it in a playable state and move on to a new destiny project. We will know more late Oct hopefully the full plan for D2.

Destiny 2 is finished, destiny as a franchise isn't (yet). D2 as far as we know is effectively over outside of this 1 unvaulting update which is just adding that. No changes to the rest of the game outside of major issues, no more seasons, no more live service, no more events, not even anymore twabs. Best guess is the sunrise guys have been/will be hired to do the unvaulting, or it'll absolutely be outsourced given there's little to no new hires & the few who have been are for marathon. Marathon has just been confirmed to have support post march so it's getting a 2nd year, they've currently only like 400 staff Think spinoffs, single player/co-op, story games, smaller outlay, smaller risk, faster turnaround, destiny as we've known it is unfortunately gone imvho

If you have a PC destiny sunrise is an option.
There's a lot of people begging for D3... but there's also a large part of the community who said they'll never buy a D3 from Bungie because they lost all trust after the content was vaulted. Bungie knows the Destiny franchise is a gold-mine, with plenty of fanatics who are highly addicted for the rest of their lives. They would be stupid to let it die or sell it off to another company. What I believe, is that Bungie is unvaulting the old content so that they can say "we made things right... now please forgive us and buy D3 in a few years"

9 RepliesEdited by eeriearcade: 10/11/2026 5:04:28 PMThe unvaulting is just the start of whatever comes next. They have plans to build new content. We don’t yet know what those plans are. They previously talked about it being time for Destiny to live beyond Destiny 2. So, unless they confirm a change of mind on that, we have to assume D2 is pretty much done. We know we’re getting the unvaulted content. We might also get something to lead into whatever comes after D2, but that’s just speculation. There’s also speculation about a single player Destiny game, but the bit about
a community of Guardians coming together against impossible odds.
https://www.bungie.net/7/en/News/Article/nextchapterofbungie suggests coop activities are central to future plans. My guess is it’ll be a slimmed down version of Destiny, whether that’s D3 or a Destiny spinoff.

3 RepliesThey're not done with the Destiny franchise, but D2 is simply being brought back to feature complete (well besides all the seasonal stuff) not being resurrected. What the future looks like, we'll just have to wait and see.

6 RepliesDestiny 2 is finished. It’s no longer in live service or getting new content. The content previously removed to the DCV is being ‘brought up’ to the current version of the game and being added back in. No timescales have been officially indicated for this. As this is apparently a free update and neither D2 nor Marathon appear to be bringing in significant income it does lead to questions around funding. There may be further developments in the ‘Destiny universe’ (for want of a better term). Maybe a D1 remaster. Maybe a Destiny ‘spinoff’. Maybe something else.

2 RepliesFrom what I understand, they aren't going to be doing anything with D2 beyond unvaulting the old content. Of course, that could always change. After all, they had said that it wouldn't be possible to bring back the vaulted content, and here they are doing just that. So I'm not gonna give up on Destiny just yet.
