Destiny 2 repeatedly crashes in Character Creation or Director — 0xc0000005
Destiny 2 repeatedly crashes before gameplay, usually during character creation or while using the Director.
Windows Event Viewer consistently reports:
- Exception code: 0xc0000005
- Faulting module: unknown
- Fault offset: 0x00007ff69b5c2a8b
- Application: destiny2.exe
- Steam Build ID: 24238629
System:
- Windows 11 Pro N, build 26200
- Intel Core i5-8600K
- 32 GB RAM
- NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti
- NVIDIA driver 581.57
Troubleshooting completed without resolving the crash:
- Verified all Steam files
- Reset Destiny CVARS/preferences
- Disabled Steam Overlay
- Stopped Nahimic
- Reinstalled Destiny’s bundled BattlEye service
- Confirmed Windows Media Feature Pack components are installed
- Checked Event Viewer: no WHEA or NVIDIA display-driver failures
Every crash reaches the same access-violation code and fault address. I have existing characters, do not use DIM, and have not equipped the MIDA/Marathon cosmetics associated with a previous character-loading issue.
